What great trailer!! I wish I had one. I pack my planes in my old Ford crew cab. The back seat folds down in to a bed. Sometimes we go places where I use my motor home. You would laugh if you seen where I put them. I can put three .60 size planes in my shower, flight box and my folding stand all so. Will you make shelfs on the sides of the trailer? With gas prices the way they are, im tempted to build a trailer for my Stearman, to pull behind my VW trike. My flatbed is costing me about $5.00 a nite to go flying. Thats about $30.00 a week. I figure the plane uses maybe $2.00 a night. Stll not too bad, and it's alot cheaper than my old hobby (drinking beer). Gave that up in 2002 when I started flying. :D

That would be too cool a chopper trailer! When you say the plane dosen't no when it's windy, are you speaking of the Stearman? Dose it fly good when it is windy?

Yes, the Stearman fly's great in the wind, it's very stable because of it's size and weight. One thing I really notice is how the Stearman always seems to be able to taxi back to me, no matter how windy it is. If I can't steer it around on the ground, it's too windy to fly.

It is fun, but it only gets about 28 mpg, so it's not as much fun as it used to be. It's still my main transportation though. Im off to the gas station and the flying site, back later... Dennis

Cool bike. I have an idea for you. How about building a rack for the Stearman and mount it on the back. Then rename the plane “Mistress”. [sm=wink_smile.gif]

Well I glued the turtle deck on yesterday with canopy glue, Formula 560 from Pacer. This morning I moved the plane out side in the sun to take some pictures. After about 20 minutes glue got soft and ran down the side. Fortunately it's water soluble and cleaned up. I called Pacer and so far they are no help. [sm=angry_smile.gif] They just said the when the glue is more than a year old it could go bad. Of course there is nothing on the label that tells you that. [sm=punching.gif]

Does anyone have any suggestions?

PS: CAUTION...Do not use Pacer Canopy glue on the turtle deck.

I've got the brillelli 26 in mine with a sullivan smoke system, so my stearman weighs around 17 or 18 pounds and the 26 will pull it strait up as far as you want to go. The 46 might damage the plane. I will post a picture of it when I take it out next, I took out the front cockpit and sheeted over the hole and intend on putting a red checker board pattern on the bottom of the wings and horizontal stab as soon as the ups man brings my monocote.:D

Well finally cleaned off the canopy glue...what a pain. Didn't someone once say "If it's not one thing it's another". Using CA was what I have been thinking but I try to follow the instructions. Maybe the canopy glue they used was a better quality.

My friend Greg glued mine on, and he used canopy glue, just like he did on the windshields, but I have not had the glue softening problem, so like the guy said, maybe your glue was old. Could it be that your in a high humidity area, and it takes longer for the canopy glue to cure ?
I would not use CA to glue it on. When CA runs, it makes a real mess. I would just leave the turtledeck off until you can fresh canopy glue. Dennis

That is why they make different viscosities of CA. Don't use thin, use a medium or thick, just a few dabs and your done.

I used med. ca to glue the plastic parts on the plane, canopy etc. I usualy spray some kicker on the monokote, put a little ca on the part and be sure you know where you want to put it because you only get one shot. if you do it wright you get instant results,, and no glue runs.

hahahahaha ! funny, I forgot about the medium and thick CA's ! lol I've made some pretty awful runs on past planes. I guess I have an aquired hatred of CA because of my inability to deal with the thin CA artistically :D

I think you are right about the canopy glue…it is probably too old. A tech from Pacer called me and said the same. I told him it would be nice if they noted that on the label.
Yes CA is unforgiving and hard to deal especially with on a long piece like the turtle deck. It’s probably why they recommend canopy glue. And I too have had a lot of fun with CA…I now buy the extra larger 10 oz bottle of CA Debonder from Sig.
I thought about using epoxy but not sure. It’s easy to clean up with alcohol.
I did an experiment with Elmer’s Wood glue today. I glued a scrape piece of plastic to the monokote on a stabilizer from a wrecked plane. I left the experiment in the sun…it was over 100 today. I just checked it and it’s still together. I think that’s the answer to my question…Elmer Wood glue.

Canopy glue is probably just Elmers glue, just like STP gas treatment smells and tastes like rubbing alcohol, and probably is.

Thanks. Years ago, I had a camper/model hauler. I had planes in the bathroom, too. LOL

I'll mount cradles on a wall, to hold a couple more fuselages. Wings will be suspended from the ceiling and more will hang from the second wall. D-Rings have been placed on the floor, so things can be bungeed down..

Somehow, I managed to bend a cabane on the Stearman. Got the replacement yesterday. Unfortunately, I've been trying to assemble the bipe while working on other projects. After I finish the trailer, I need to buckle down, and get her finished.

I've been thinking about it. Haven't decided.

A friend has devised a way that I can use my field battery to power the interior lights. I may have to mount it up front, where the bench would go.

Formula 560 is canopy glue from Pacer. I'll have to try a fresh bottle.

It is glue that I bought from Hobby People. It is for canopies, windshields and anything like that. It is water based. The bottle says it's " The World Best Canopy Glue " For fast drying (24 hours ) Not so fast! Drys clear, bonds canopies & plastic parts to almost anything, flexlble. Made by Pacer. The main reason I have it is because Hobby People is only one block from my house.
