RE: BME Edge?

:(Hey! What's going on with all the new BME owners??[:@] Nobody talking about there new BME EDGE:D We need some good threads on what's going on, and some flight reports on what this plane can do[:-][:-]

Max flew 2 prototypes at the field I fly at.Often It is just 3-5 of us and Max always puts on a great show.
I am not advertising for him,but I spent a few evenings thoroughly checking out the progress on his Edge.He was very violent with it at times, with super velocity blenders, high speed snappy passes and other extreme G manouvers. The Edge was unaffected.I was waiting for servo or pushrod failures instead. But the more impressive flights to me were the post stall slow as walk over the runway Harriers and Hovers, with the propwash in my face.I could only wish to own one of these..The field is at sea level and his was powered by a BME 50 with a wooden prop.I dont know the brand or size.Plenty of juice to accellerate vertical from a Hover.Obviously the 50 wont pull as hard at highter elevations.I hope the production aircraft turn out to please pilots,as I really want one of these as my first gasser.
Below are a few pics I found from late last year, with Max experimenting on two of his Edges.

RE: BME Edge?

I must say the plane does fly great even at 17lbs with a Brison 3.2. I'll get another EDGE this winter with a DA 50 and campare the diffrents and that says alot as I never buy the same plane twice.

Any one have some weights on their EDGES?

RE: BME Edge?

Well, I just ordered this one. Hope it is as good as you guys say. I will be taking all but the red and black off the plane and putting a design of my own on it. I have a Brison 3.2 for it and that should be a great combo. What will I need to do to make it balance with this engine? Thanks guys for the info.

RE: BME Edge?

The colors pull off the plane easy, but leaves a residue. Should be easy to get rid of though, i covered over it.

RE: BME Edge?

so your judging the plane by its owners, not its characteristics? Id tell you how it flies, but im waiting for a few parts in the mail, maybe like a few other people??[X(]

RE: BME Edge?

Can anybody tell me the type of covering on this plane [ ie:monokote ultracote], also is the wing and fuse phenolic fiberglass or paper/ thanks for the info in advance Dave

Dago Red 08-31-2004 08:55 PM

RE: BME Edge?

The plane is covered in a wierd covering, looks like its monokote, yet on the back side looks like a sort of cloth, but its not anything ive seen.

David_Moen 08-31-2004 10:40 PM

RE: BME Edge?

I was told that the covering was made in the same factory as monocote and that the only difference was the brand name wasn't printed on the edges of the coverning. Doesn't sound like that was quite right.

RE: BME Edge?

Look at some of the earlier posts. I don't know what your looking for but as planes go in this size class it flies great. Harriers(12º spoilers) are rock solid, torque rolls, knife edge circles, water falls the list goes on[sm=thumbup.gif]. This plane does things 35% airplanes have a hard time with. My Edge came out 16.5 lbs with a FPE 3.2 with no added balance weight needed. For 3D you need it a bit tail heavy 5" back but landings are still no problem. It has become my favorite for week days because of its size but I think its going to take some flying time from my 33% Ultimate and a 35% Extra on the weekends:D.

RE: BME Edge?

The covering is nothing like Monocote. Don't get me wrong the covering is OK but not great. The first thing you need to replace is the Black. One day in the hot sun and wrinkle city. The other colors are fine and match Ultracote.

RE: BME Edge?

Hi Ronk1 just wonder if you use 2 receiver batterys as my is 17.5lb with a brison 3.2.

ronk1 09-01-2004 10:49 AM

RE: BME Edge?

No I have one 2000mah NiMh for the receiver, ignition is a 1200mah NiMh. I have 4 Hitec 5625's on the aileron's and elevator, one 5945 pull-pull on the rudder. Carbon fiber tail wheel and lightning holes in the firewall behind the engine and engine box floor. Along with that the rudder servo tray is made from carbon fiber I had around. I don't use a dual receiver battery setup in any of my planes even my 35%. Jest my opinion but dual receiver batteries is overkill. BTW one other thing it could be is that the stock FPE muffler is very light. If your using a rear Pitts muffler on the Brison that is about a 5oz add compared to the FPE side mount.

RE: BME Edge?

Thanks Ronk. That explains why my is 17.5lb as I,m useing duel receiver batterys, switchs and the Bission pitts mufflerand that along is about 8oz extra.Would you be able to show some pictures of your lighting cutouts. Thanks.

I got trim scheme finished up. Wanted to see what you guys think of it. The construction of this plane looks good. Doesn't feel too heavy yet either. Hope to keep it under 17 lbs with my Brison. Should have it flying by next weekend at the latest.

You dog Eric,
Looks great, let me know what you think of it.

Nah, you will have to come down and fly it for yourself! This is a cool plane.

RE: BME Edge?

I'll take you up on that offer.

RE: BME Edge?

Nice covering job, looks great. BTW I posted that it harriers nice with 16º of spoilers after doing some experimenting I found 12º works as well and gives better rudder control. Hope yours flies as nice as mine:D.

RE: BME Edge?

The Edge sounds great but how about the covering material? What is it and how is it holding up? Does it act like Monokote with respect to wrinkles, temperature range etc.?
