25 size bipe
Who makes a good 25 size bipe, I have a 40 4-stroke looking for a new home and I want a little bipe to putt around with and was hoping to find a Fokker D-VII for it but all I can find is 40 size and up. I did have a waco 30 but wanted something differtent. If anyone knows where I can find one let me know, I would prefur a ARF but kits are good too but don't have tons of time to build but will find time if need be.
Thanx for any help Dauntae |
RE: 25 size bipe
The ACE 4-40 bipe would be perfect. It was a relatively easy kit to build, though the cabanes were a PITA. It builds light.
Finding one might be tricky, though. They've been out of print for quite some time. . |
RE: 25 size bipe
Pacific Aeromodel has a Tiger Moth 30 that would love that 40 4 stroke. It flies a lot better than that Waco too.

RE: 25 size bipe
I searched a little on the ACE 4-40 bipe and I think it would be hard to find one, And I just looked at the Pacific Aeromodel Tiger Moth 30......$219.00 for a 30 size plane is too much although it does look great and has tons of detail bu I don't really want to spend that much on a little plane. I get a feeling a kit is what I will end up with but I can't find any of those either. Thanks for the replies so far and I'll keep looking.

RE: 25 size bipe
The World Models (Airborne) Ultimate-30 is a great flier on a .40 to .56 four stroke. The price is right and at $149.00 it's a very nice plane.

RE: 25 size bipe
How do you guys think an OS .40LA would work on the WM Ultimate-30? Would it be worth it to try? My nephew is looking to upgrade is SuperStar Select and this would be too cool if he could use his SS equipment for this.
Thanks! |
RE: 25 size bipe
The LA would be borderline on that plane, but the warning is that it is not for a low time pilot. The little Ultimate is a full tilt adrenaline machine for aerobatics.[8D] I had flown mine with a Saito .45 then a .50 and finally a .56. It was a blast on the .56 and the roll rate was measured in RPMs!

Kinda late for a reply here but yes I love the WM Ultimate Bipe. Mine was powered by a 32sx with a pitts muffler and was absolutely wonderful. As quint-RCU mentioned, it is NOT for the beginner but for the sport acrobat, this was a sheer pleasure to fly. Wish I could find another one in Taiwan.

RE: 25 size bipe
fourstroke, I'm glad you brought this back to life. Just a couple of days ago I posted a question about finding a plane that I could fly with my OS .40 la. This is one of the planes I listed as one that might work but no one had any experiences with it. Do you think my OS LA would fly this plane well? What's the quality? Is the plane squirelly on the ground?
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I'm doing a similar search. I've got a Saito .45 and am looking for a suitable ARF bipe. So far, the only one is the WM Ultimate. I was hoping for something a little more "traditional", but not quite so docile as the tiger moth seems to be. The Sportsman Waco 30 would have been nice, but that's no longer available in the US. So far, no luck. The owner of the LHS said the small bipes are too troublesome on the ground, so nobody buys them.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
Well if you've flown a Cub, you've flown the worst ground handling plane period. The Ultimate was fine on the ground and it floated in nicely for landings. The 40la and 45 Saito will be perfect. My 32sx was too light and necessitated the placement of the 4AA cell battery pack in front of the firewall. A little more weight upfront would've been better.
The quality of this kit is incredible. Really top notch. The wings are one peice (each) and sheeted for incredible strength. The struts do take a little time to put together but once together the plane was strong as an ox. The plane turned out pretty light and could do all the aerobatics I needed. Furthermore, it was quick and beautiful in the air... get it... you won't regret it! |
RE: 25 size bipe
Forestroke, as always, thanks for the feedback.

RE: 25 size bipe
I had a YS-52 on mine and it flew great until...............:D
|
RE: 25 size bipe
Ive got one of these Ultimate-30's sitting here and was thinking of putting in a ys 63s in it. Would this be way too much engine for this model. Im looking for at least a 1:1 power to weight ratio.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I had one with an OS 48 four stroke.... An absolute rocket ship... I added some down thrust, and some right thrust.... It's actually an easy model to fly, and lands very slow..... Blenders, and tumbling is it's best feature.... It's not 3d, the control surfaces are kind of small.

RE: 25 size bipe
Hi.....I put an OS25 on an ACE Simple Ultimate and it's a hoot!! It's a bit tricky to take off from grass but with skis off snow it's a blast ! Cheap and easy to build if you can find one.

RE: 25 size bipe
Thanks Bipeguy. I looked at the specs of the Simple Ultimate. I think the weight of the Saito 45 would be a bit much.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Waco 30. It calls for a 30FS and a OS 48FS fits so the 40 should also.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I would think one of the Modeltech WW1 Arf's would fly with a 40 4 stroker. Very scale, too I'll bet.

RE: 25 size bipe
Which Waco? The only one I've found is the one by Sportsman Aviation, but unfortunately, it does not seem to be available in the US. Do you know of another?
|
RE: 25 size bipe
the Waco he is refering to was sold by Global and Sportsman Aviation and is no longer available. Actually I have one that has a Magnum 30 four stroke in it that has about 4 flights on it and I am trying to make up my mind to kep it or sell it.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
That's what I thought. Why the uncertainty about whether to keep it?
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I have the WACO 30 & 60 sz and love them both. The 60 sz is better but both are really nice. You can still get the 30 sz on Ebay once in a while.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I have a problem seeing it real good in the air it's the grey version and gets small real quick. I have other planes I enjoy flying more so it sets. I have had it for 2 years and it only has a few flights. I am going to try to decide here in the next few days. If I do decide to sell I will probably post it & the engine here on RC UNIVERSE. I originaly bought it for my son and he didn't want it, I put it up for sale on RC Universe and thought it was sold but the sell fell through so I assembled it and flew it a few times.

ORIGINAL: Salty25 I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Waco 30. It calls for a 30FS and a OS 48FS fits so the 40 should also. No more to be had, I've actually decided to sell the 40 and go bigger. Could not find the right plane for it and I've ventured to the bigger stuff now (60-120 stuff) but thanx for all the replies and keep em flyin Dauntae |
RE: 25 size bipe
Thanks to all for the feedback. I'll have to keep a watch on eBay and RCU marketplace.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
Sorry, I didn't know they weren't selling the Waco anymore. I also have a black one that I had a 30FS on but am putting the OS 48FS on now.
So many projects I hope I finish it soon. |
RE: 25 size bipe
drvcrash - a 63fz would be way too much power for this plane. In my opinion a O.S. 52 or similar Saito would be absolutely the best match. I had the 32sx from another plane. Had I not had that lump already, I would've certainly put in a 52 O.S. or 56 Saito. It deserves four stroke sound! The Y.S. 63, although a great engine, is not only too powerful (not all people have that in their vocabulary) but also too thirsty. With the Y.S. 63 you will probably only get 8 minutes or less at full throttle. I know because my WM Rambler 30 ran out of gas after 8 minutes of flying. I had limited it to only 70% throttle because it was torquing the plane way too much. In fact I had to couple some aileron to throttle even with only half throttle in order to have it stay level throughout the throttle range. So 8 minutes at 70% throttle (admittedly running rich) isn't great run time in my book.
My 2 cents? Don't over do it. Keep it within the envelope and the plane will be a blast to fly. |
RE: 25 size bipe
Hi Guys,
Is this the same plane your talking about here ????????????? [link=http://www.modelairplanenews.com/reviews/biplane46.asp]http://www.modelairplanenews.com/reviews/biplane46.asp[/link] As they have used a 91 Fourstroke !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have this model waiting in line to be built :D |

This thread has talked about several different planes but the Ultimate that has been talked about is the World Models Ultimate
|
RE: 25 size bipe
DragonHeart,
That's the Global Ultimate, they don't make it anymore either. It's a 46 size bipe and is bigger then the Waco. The Waco came in both a 30 and a 60 size. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/127530.asp This is the 60, the 30 looked the same only smaller. |

RE: 25 size bipe
No... that's not a 25-30size bipe!!! We are looking at a very dimunitive bipe. This global looks about the same though (well the covering is similar). It actually is quite pretty. The WM Ultimate has a narrower fuse that makes it knife edge better. Also, the WM Ultimate is quite a bit smaller.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
forestroke,
bull-rcu posted a pic of the 60 size Waco. Global, actually Sportsman Aviation, used to sell a 30 size of the same model. They looked exactly the same only different sizes of course. |
RE: 25 size bipe
Salty - actually I responded to the post from the first page... didn't realize that there was a second page. I've seen the WACO 30 and actually I know it is still on sale here in Taiwan.
I don't know why they would stop making it. I guess the 60 is only marginally larger but with infinite more engine options. 30 size planes are losing engine options left and right. Most advancements seem to be for 40 class and larger. |
RE: 25 size bipe
I suspect it's because the "supersize" tendencies in the US have caused people to gradually move toward bigger and "better" planes. I've seen the 30 size still available on web sites for UK and German hobby shops. It seems the North American importers decided not to bring it here any more. Wish I had another business trip to Taipei, I'd love to bring a few of these home.
|
RE: 25 size bipe
I would say that the 30 size is still available in Taiwan but not as popular as well. The good thing is that many trainers are sold in the 30 size so that there is still some market for 30 size second and third planes. Yesterday in my LHS I was tempted to buy a Patriot replica in 30 size or a Kyosho Aurum 30. But because my 32SX is currently installed in my TT Lazy Tiger, which despite all my complaints, I love... I purchased a Funtana 40 for my homeless FZ63. Price? US$120 including a aluminum backed spinner. NICE.
Now I've got to get crackin' at making it! It's my 6th ARF kit sitting on the shelf! I'm still debating a VQ P-51. I love to build... but addicted to buying!!! |
RE: 25 size bipe
I do have the 30 sz also. They quit selling the 30 sz this past summer here in the US. I baught the 30 sz after I had so much fun flying the 60 sz. Only complaint I ever heard on the 30 sz was ground looping on take off. I haven't built mine yet.
