Thanks guy's,
I almost did that Ben, at first I wondered what the hole in the bottom of the fuse near the tail was....duh! My hitec receiver has an awful long antenna, how much did you let drag from the bottom? Was just looking at a deans whip antenna I had on my helicopter, could work I think.

Ben, how's that pretty thing of yours flying?

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

I think i'll try rocketman612's idea with the silicon and Bens idea with the wire and stay away from the whip antenna, like you said...I have enough trouble without upgrading to it. Somewhere I have a full film canister of silicon, that should only take about a week to find :D

I can't get the tail wheel to move much in either direction. I don't know if the springs are to loose or what. When its resting on the ground the wheel dosn't move at all. If I push it, the tail wheel deflects somewhat. Any Ideas? I believe its the new style Chrome one.

Rubyred,
I had a problem with the ends of the springs trying to get them on...I finally bent one so bad I just cut the ends off both springs and rebent similar to a standard spring with ends lookung like a C and used them that way. Made the spring slightly shorter and tighter when on. I haven't put the fuse on the floor and pushed but I do get movement when I turn the rudder. I may re-check and if necessary go to ace hdw. and get a couple of their small springs. Heck....I have to go to ace tomorrow anyway so I think i'll pick up a couple.

Hey Bud pick me up a couple while your out. I got the springs on ok, may be when I get it out to the field it will taxi ok. I would like more travel though. Maybe I will make up another set of springs and try them.

Bud Faulkner 03-14-2005 09:44 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

He,He, I'll get you a set :D I think a shorter spring will be tighter and give less play. But then my wife said I shouln't think.

Here is a picture of my exhaust built by Kelvin of Keleo. I had to do a min of cutting on the cowl bottom. Workmanship was first rate and Kelvin was easy to work with doing this mostly from photos

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Man....that's sharp looking rubyred. Where did you have to cut the cowl? Got an e-mail from Tom E. and he said he just got his in the mail from Kelvin but hasn't installed it yet.
I see you set your lines up the same way I did except mine has only the fill/empty line there, the overflow is routed to the cowl bottom. I'm using the three line system with two clunks.

Tom..

What did you make your engine block out of? It looks like 1/4 inch plywood. Did you make it 2" out from the firewall? Do the engine bolts go from your engine thru the box and into the firewall? Your box is neat looking Tks..

Robert..

tom_eutsler 03-16-2005 03:05 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Howdee, yep 1/4" A/C ply , holes drilled around the perimeter, motor bolts to the "box" and box will be glued to front of org firewall, and will use some tri square around outside of box , to give more gluing area. Bud has a post somewhere back on his and some picts - believe it was 2 1/8" , to give this OS 160 the right clearence in front of Cowl. ...te

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

mitoor/c, there are pictures of mine at post #316....in my case the box is 2" deep but it's best to do as the instructions say to measure, they may not all be 2" if you use the box.

Tom, it appears you and rubyred have something in common...let us know if you have to cut your cowl.

Bud, iam doing my own exhaust, have stuffed to much in this plane as is but I really like yours and redoing mine to yours , Ive also changed the interior colors and the avant scheme seems dated so Ill be doing mine to the scheme thats on yours, but in light gold where yours is blue, and the interior was grey and red with black trim and is now its lt tan, chocolate with ivory trim, leather look seats, kept the avant dash, just did it my way , pleasing to the eyes, better go now jim

Thanks Jim,
Your scheme sounds good...pictures?? :) I'm doing the wiring on mine now (the part I always hated) Looks like I can get everything under the floor so i'll have a clean interior. Still have to get my instrument panel. I've yet to hook up the elev. and rudder but that's next, wings are done. I also have to get a 12mm prop reamer and spinner. Slow progress since I don't spend a lot of my day working on it but i'm getting there.

Here's a picture of how I routed my wiring for the flaps and ailerons. The female conns. are ca'd with a balsa spacer and the wiring is held in place with canopy glue. The servo's are behind the seat (I moved the servo's aft to place the seat in a more scale like position in relation to the rear window per the real one) the receiver and batt. are under the floor. So unless you look behind the seat the only radio parts showing is this wiring, the throttle cable is behind the side paneling.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Bud youve run your wiring the same as I, makes a cleaner look, I also labled what to where, would never remember that 3weeks later , with four planes, I need notes sheets on each one, may the sons can get the number down this year, less to remember, these cubs really do lend them selves to details and plenty of room to hide things, thanks again Jim

Bud Faulkner 03-20-2005 09:28 AM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Jim, I hear ya on the remembering....I just have to remember that the conn. closer to the root is the ailerons and the inside one is the flaps. I have conns. on both sides of the fuse for each wing. The ailerons are plugged into ch. 1 and ch 7 so I can get differential through mixing and the flaps are on a Y. Think maybe i'll paint the mail and female conns. of flaps with my wifes nail polish if I can remember where she keeps it. :D

I was just about to hook up my pull pull system when I noticed in the manual the long threaded pieces that the cable goes through and attach to the nylon snap link are x'd out in the picture on page 69 with a note...do not use? Am I missing something? What did everyone use?

Hi Bud,
In reply to your post, the cable ends that are Xed out in the manual are too small in diameter and they were replaced with a set of Du-Bro2-56 cable ends. The replacements were in my kit.
I am about finished with my interior and I would like to send you some pics, I will try to get some hobby time in this week end. Your pics were very helpfull, thanks.

Bud Faulkner 03-22-2005 09:59 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Thanks Andy, I'll go double check my parts.....looking forward to your pictures.
BTW my kit has 11 of those cable end parts that you're not supposed to use?

O.K. Just went and checked and they're missing, I just mailed DPM about them.
