Hi Mike. I just purchased the blue and white DPM Super-clipped winged. I have a 3W 24 to install. I would be very interested in any photos and advise/recommendations/problems with the heavier gas motor in the cub. Thanks. Dave.

Dave,

How long from the time you ordered your Cub did it take for you to get it in your hands? I have had a white un-clipped one on order for over a year now.

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray.
I found this one NIB on RCU for $465.00. I was going to order one also, but am somewhat impatient! Sorry your cub is taking so long to get to you. Regards. Dave.

Ray, Sorry to hear you are still waiting. It does seem pretty rediculous to have to wait this long. I originally wanted and ordered the ARC version last march. In their last shippment in August 05 the Arc's never showed and I was offered their last yellow one that I took. The fact that you want a white one may be the reason for the wait. I assume you are in touch with DP Models monthly to bark at em. Maybe you should get whatever they have and refinish in white.
I think of all the chinese arfy crap, DP Models is the slowest. I do have some of these arfy's, but still prefer to build my own.

I did talk with DP himself, I think in January, and found out a few things that may explain the delays. There is a large US distributor using the same factory as DPM. The large distributor is trying to monopolize the factory, thus reason for the delays. Do I believe it??? Maybe a little, but I'm not that gullible to believe the whole 9 yards. I knew of the delays before ordering it, (through local hobby shop where I work part time). I have a 25 year old Balsa USA Cub that I just went through and re-covered. It will be ready to fly this spring with the original OS 120 twin, (if the 120 doesn't perform well, then I'll take the 160 twin intended for the Supercub and use it in the Cub and maybe forget about the DPM Supercub for a while).

Enjoy yours...

Ray

Hi Bud.
Here are a few photos of my 3W24 in the DPM clipped wing. Hope these help you or anyone else contemplating going gas instead of glow. Regards. Dave

Not sure how to get them to post. Tried the method described but had no luck. Please advise. Thank you. Dave.

Dave, you said you tried the method described. Did you click on lower left in reply where it said click here to upload? That's how I do it. If the file is too large it will let you know.

Looks good. Were your wheel pant brackets loose?

rcflyerdaveh 02-27-2006 12:05 AM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

1 was unattached. I enlarged the hole and used a mini torch and solder. I built the solder up and had good flow, when cool, I filed it off almost flush. Then a good clean up with lacquer thinner and white paint. It is a good repair and will most likely hold up. Regards. Dave.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Thats exactly how I repaired mine. I tried the JB weld and it did not hold. I have not completed the plane yet but I feel the bracket repair will hold.

I had a good deal of problems with the landing gear assy sticking but I believe I've worked through all of that.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted and I'll do the same.

The DP Super Cub. I am building the Sig 1/5th scale J3 kit with Saito 90T. Need to get in air quicker. Going to purchase the DP SC, plan on powering with the OS 160 Twin. Anyone using this setup? Firewall placement for this engine?

Has the pipline been filled on the SC? Any discounts by any distributors ? Looks like to pay $599 ? Any replys appreciated.

I have that airplane with a Saito .72 on it. The .72 is almost too much, and I fly at a field elevation of 5,550' asl. That 90T is going to be nice, since it has a bit less power than a single .90, so you should be "just right." If it doesn't work out for you, let me know, because I want a twin for my SIG Cub! I'll buy your's, for a good price. :) Enjoy!

Lachlan - OK. If I get too involved with the DP Cub, I will sell you the 90T at a very good price. I paid $600 even. Hobby shop I deal with does not charge me tax or shipping.

Hey Hill202 that's a picture of my airplane you posted to start this page. The crank is off center by 1/8" not a 1/4" and I can live with that, you can't even tell once the spinner and prop are on. I could have gotten it almost perfect but the cylinder head would have touched the side of the cowl (the way I have it there's clearance). So if someone wants to spend the $650.00 for the twin OS go for it, but I'm very happy with my Saito 150 setup which is more than enough power and flies the airplane like a dream!

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Orvel, I was trying to make a point with Espirit Models, the people I purchased my Cub from. Your plane looks great, I meant no offense.

I opted for the twin as I was unsure about the fit of the 150. The extra bucks are definitly slowing the project down

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Looking ahead, it appears the rudder servo will not be centered on the servo tray, how does this effect the pull pull system?

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Question on the DP Super Cub please. I saw in some past post's, the G26 not a good choice for some modelers. Will the OS 160T fit completely inside the cowl ? Getting ready to get one. Which is the most popular engine for this plane ? I guess the answers are in past forums, just trying to get fast info here.

Thanks,
Vince

the 1.6 is perfect, do you know where there is a yellow one in stock in the us[&:]

crankpin 03-05-2006 09:01 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Frank99 - No I don't. I was afraid of this, as I had read somewhere that the DP SC is made on the same line as some other ARF's, and he has to get a slot to get in production line.
Don't know all the facts. If we look at the whole picture, there may be a world wide demand for the plane. I will find out this week and post here the results. I guess you already have.
I am building the Sig 1/5th scale Cub, and purchased the Saito 90T for it. It is going to take a little while to get it finished, trying to make close to scale.
