I appreciate the heads-up. I'll take a look over on ebay! Thanks, G.P.

Thanks for the tip! I'm so psych'd to get this thing going! May have to drive to Houston to pick it up this weekend instead of waiting until the end of the month! I was finally able to add the pictures. Not sure how I managed to have them inserted before the text and why they're so large. Oh, well at least I was able to get them posted. |
Covering is utracote , Cub yellow , find it here when back in stock ? https://www.horizonhobby.com/ultraco...yellow-hanu884

Crazystick,
Thanks for the details on the covering. I don't have any experience with the Ultracote products. You know if it behaves the same as Monocote? I did see a photo of your model a few days ago on this thread but don't remember which engine you had installed. I'm trying to decide which powerplant to use? Would you recommend the engine you mounted in your model ? Had any issues? I am considering YS FS140 Sport, Saito 125a and Saito 150b but I am open to other suggestions. Thanks again for the help with the Ultracote color. Eric |
I had a CCRC 26 and would not recommend it . If you prefer glow , 4 stroke Saito or OS would do , YS would cost more to operate as it likes 20% nitro . I have gotten away from glow and am running gas . To make it truly a SUPER cub I would use this motor w/
1/4" x 32 spark plug and it fits into the cowl https://www.valleyviewrc.com/vvrc-40cc-classic I have also see them with DLE 35RA , and OS 160 twin Crazystick |
I just bought one of these this past weekend, but it is missing the wing tube and struts. I see the post about the wing tube specs, does anyone have a set of struts or ideas on how to get some?
Thanks, Phil |
Phil,
Sorry, for the super late reply. I haven't been on this thread in a long time. I don't think too many folks follow this thread anymore. To answer your question, I think it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to find the struts. You could check Horizon Hobby for parts from the Hangar 9 1/4-scale Cub but last time I looked it was "slim pickin's" on those parts still available. Only other options that I can think of are to find some from someone's crashed plane (probably not too likely either - you could look forever). Probably the best option is to try to custom build some of your own. I can provide pictures and measurements if you decide to go that route... Good luck in your search, Eric |
The Hangar 9 SuperCub windscreen fits. The wing tube also fits, and the landing gear is very close. The H9 cowl also fits. I have the DP Clipped wing with a Valley View RC 40 cc twin for power and she flies really well. With the clipped wings, I cannot verify if the wing struts fit, but I think they are very very close. Good luck!

Phil,
I just ran across the Phoenix 1/4-scale PA-18 Super Cub Model. They offer several parts including a wing strut set. Price is pretty high at $57.99. I have no idea whether they will actually fit or not. The wing span for the DPM is 105.5, if think, the Phoenix model is listed at 107". https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=PMMA1695&P=Z |
I think the Hangar 9 will be closer to what you want. The Han 9 J-3 Cub also has the exact same struts as the SuperCub. Keep looking.
|
BTW; the J-3 struts are 30 1/2 inches in length from tip to bottom of threads

Anyone have a copy of the manual either PDF or hard copy? I came across a vintage DPM super cub today and of course it was missing..

Replacement landing gear struts, no springs!!
Well after frustratingly searching for replacement springs for the original strut design I opted to buy a Robart replacement that uses o-rings. The struts fit like a glove and has plenty of resistance, I’m very pleased. Just need to paint now.
