I got the Rascal out today and it was an interesting day to say the least. The first flight was a no brainer needing only 2 clicks of left Aileron. After a few minutes in the air I thought I would land and just give everything the once over. Good thing I did, the screw in the servo arm on the right Aileron had backed out half way. After using some locktite on the two Aileron servo screws it was off for another flight. After trying some touch and goes I thought I would land and check everything once again. By this time the wind had picked up pretty good so once I landed I clipped the wire fence that lines our runway and broke my nice white 18X6 XOAR prop. I put on an APC 17X6 prop and tweaked the G26 until I was getting around 9400-9600 rpm on top end. At this point I'm having a ball with the Rascal and let two of my flying buddies have their go at the Rascal and they seem to like it pretty well. The rudder sure is very effective in knive edge flight and the landings are very slow and stable. It was to windy to try anything crazy but there's always another day. You gotta love these Rascals :D:D:D.

Hey. Congrtas on the flights. I hate breaking props, but some days it is part of the game.. Looks great.

Thanks man. The Rascal is a cool plane. I seem to get better performance out of the APC 17X6 prop. What rpm's are you getting on the 18X6?

I have not had a chance to try it yet. Plus your running a G26 and I am running a G23 on my Rascal. So till I get another G26 in the air I won't know. Brian

Brian,

I forgot you were running a G23. I think I may buy a white XOAR 17X6 and 18X6. After the engine is broke in and the rpm's come up the 18X6 may be ok.

I flew mine all afternoon today and had a great day. I spent on whole 30 minute flight tweaking the flap/elevator mix and have it all tweaked in. Now with full flaps and a couple of clicks off idle I can fly down the field slow enough to pick it out of the air. The landings are so alick. With the flaps down I fly in with a few clicks of power on and just before touchdown flare and cut the throttle. My G26 is really starting to break in. I can fell the top end picking up and the idle getting smoother. I weighed mine today and it weighs in at 14lb 6oz. I also closrd off the cockpit and moved the batteries to the rear compartment. I also repositioned the AR7000 reciever. Nor the CG is dead on and leaninf towards tail heavy whih also has afected the quick elevator response and helps he float at slow apeeds. I finished the rienforcement tube for the fuselage wing strut mount and will install it this week. Every time I fly her she gets better and better. I just love the girl. Zippie did the bolts arrive or did you borrow one?

BTW I am only using about 9 ounces of gas in a 30 minute flight of mixed flying say 30% full throttle and the rest below half throttle. How are others doing?

Ron,

I bought a 5/16" hard bolt and a plastic spinner just so I could fly the Rascal. I still can't use an aluminum spinner because I can't bolt it on. I have not received the bolts yet.

The Rascal looks good. Glad to hear that you got the engine tweaked out. Can't remember, are you running the G26 also? What tire manufacture are you putting on your wheel pants? Goodyear, Firestone, Michelin, Cooper have already been taken. You gotta add the pin striping as well. It really sets the Rascal off.

Just thought I would mention that I am using the new Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 Ghz system without a glitch at all. I've been running Airtronics since the early 80's and never had an issue. I have also ran JR for a while but prefer Airtronics for it's ease of programming.

Hard to see but i out lined mine with silver pin striping, think i wil do the pants the same.The 110 looks good with any thing and the way it flys is out of sight thanks frank

benton pine bluff eldorado conway moticello and we have a real nice field 5 miles south of sheridan come on down, had 33% yak and the 110 up yesterday with perfect weather thanks frank

The pin strip I used is automotive 1/4" black pin stripe and you'll use the whole roll as long as you don't use it on the bottom of the wing. The white XOAR prop I got from [link=http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/Models/Accessories/Props/XOARProps.html]Cheif Aircraft[/link]

Okay guys,
I have been out of the loop for a week or so. Zippi, great job on finishing your Rascal and congrats on the test flights. Looks like i will be flying the first Rascal glider if one of you can provide a tow plane. It seems that my G26 has harked a bearing or something according to the Zenoah guys at Horizon. I had to pull it off and got to send it in to see whats up with my powerplant. The engine kept dying after 2-3 minutes of flying the last time out, thought i could have had some bad gas, but the way my luck runs, there was some play at the end of the crankshaft.

I hate to hear that a good Zenoah engine has hacked up a bearing. Thanks to king_arthur1953 I now have a prop bolt that is tapped 10-32 so I can use the True-Turn 3 1/2" spinner I just ordered from Tower. I was really amazed at how effective the rudder was for the small size that it is. I'm still kinda undecided on the 18X6 or the 17X6 prop. Once I get some time on the engine and the rpm come up I should be able to get a better feel for what prop is best.

Did you ever call Chad about that Monocoupe?

Thanks for the info Eric. My 3 1/2" True-Turn spinner should be here this week from Tower and I think I'll use the APC 17X6 prop for now. Not to many flying days left for me. Can't stand the cold [sm=thumbs_down.gif]

Our rough field is cracking my Wheel pants. Guess I'll only have them on for Fly-ins. I installed a bigger set of wheels. Are any of you think of a sturdier landing Gear?? Mine tend to spread a little after 5 or so flights, even with greased landings. :D. Man this thing is fun. Brian
