What are those things covering your hands? Also, what is that on your head? Is that white sand? I don't understand. Why would anyone want to work in that weather? Winters are for fishing !! 75 here today & went fishing. Sorry...

Tough guys live in North Dakota. ;) It actually wasnt bad today, about 5 degrees, the wind chill was cold tho....will finish up the floor tomorrow. After the floor is complete, we will be able to build the walls in the warmth of the garage. We are planning on putting a loft in it for storage, and a porch too...screened in. A/C in summer (yes it does get hot in the summer here)....now we will have no excuse to get all our planes flying!

My man cave. It is 14' x 24' complete with 18,000 BTU A/C and electric heater. My wife told me I need to build a bathroom in it and I could just live in it since I spend so much time in it.

RE: The Man Cave

I already have the mini fridge but no microwave. Look, it even snows here in central Texas. I have built quite a few sheds in my life but I cannot take credit for this one. When I started throwing around the idea of building one I priced the lumber and then priced a prebuilt one. I paid $6,500.00 for this one and it would have cost me over $4,000.00 to build it myself which would have taken up alot of my time that could be spent elsewhere. So I choose to pay for someone elses labor.

I think you might need some help. I would not be caught in that scene for less than $45/hr. It's cold, snowy, and windy here, and I'm happy as a clam in my tiny extra HEATED bedroom, computer at my side, plane being built on the hollow door in front of me, and my radio planing some sweet tunes.

Ok that's a half-truth. CD ended about 5min ago, time for a change;)

Well luckily this snow started about 4:30pm and lasted til about 9:30pm. So the kids were able to go out and play in it. It didn't really melt away til about noon the next day. This was about a month ago. It was about 80 degrees here today.

2 x 6 studs and 2 x 12 rafters and you could heat it with a lightbulb. Go for it. I'm jealous. Tell your wife you'll drop in once in a while.

I don't see the satellite dish. Is it mounted on the back side?

As you can see in this pic I need more shelves and maybe a set of drawers under the workbench. The blue tote under the bench and one in the loft are full of over twenty years worth of rc stuff I started gather up when I was about 13 years old. That is my son's NP Ultimate .40 on the bench. I finally started on the aileron servos and linkages. Still trying to decide on a pilot.

Some of my play toys. The drillpress in the background was a Christmas present.

north dakota kid, just make sure you plan out your work bench height carefully, because it will make life alot easier if it is just right.

The first thing I did was wire mine with a 220 service from a 75 amp breaker from my homes panel to a secondary panel in the shed. I need to insulate it because in the summer time it gets pretty hot even with the 18,000 btu a/c and I have to use a fan to help out the a/c.

i was just gonna ask, what are the dimensions of your workbench? I am clueless as to where to put benches....i gotta put into consideration the fact that its only 12 by 16. I was thinking maybe 2' benches along the wall, and a bench that can be moved around in the middle for working on assembled aircraft. i dont know how high though.

flaminheli 01-03-2009 10:46 PM

RE: The Man Cave

My bench is 8' x 3' x 3/4" heavly sanded ply. How high you build it is personal preference. Its just a matter of what makes you comfortable. Do you plan on standing all the time or sitting and standing. I built mine based on the idea that I would be sitting on a stool sometimes and standing sometimes and so far it has worked out great.

I wish I had a toy like that. I wanted a quad, my parents were iffy about it at first, and then my cousin crashed, he wore my dirtbike helmet which saved his life. He got a broken thumb. Then, my other cousins boyfriend crashed and got brain damage. FortunatelyHe's ok know, but every body was pretty scared. I am still not scared of riding them, but my parents don't want me on them. Oh well, theres always the dirtbike!

nice mancave.

It was on page 216 of the Tower catalog but it has been discontinued :D

I don't own a helmet because I cannot afford one :D . But that is another heated debate all in its self.
