The GP Space Walker
The Great Planes Space Walker must be the best plane you can buy.
With its superb looks and outstanding flying I would have to give the plane a 10 out of a 10 score. whether you are a beginner or the best pilot around the block this plane flies like a dream. like the real thing, no modifications needed with this plane. Great Planes did a great job. with an O.S. 91 SII four stroke or a O.S. 91FX w\Pitts muffler, This plane is so beautiful. I don't know how in the world that Tower is selling this plane for 200$ I would think that the plane would be so popular that they would raise the price.. Here is the sad sad story, I had a GP Space Walker and it was the best plane I had ever had. Out of a Cap, FourStar or a Kwick FLY or a PT-19 85in there was no comparison. I was flying in a scale event to maybe impress my sponsors and I was racking up perfect 10s I was on my way to winning with the GP Space Walker, Then it happened   :o  A lost all radio control due to some people out of the club messing with the radio channels. ,,,,Maybe,,,,, Anyway OFF SUBJECT. It slowly went down in a scale like bank, about a 25 degree turn down and it hit and peaces flew 50 FT up,,, no joke, and the wreckage had a 60 ft radios,, it was gone... I had had more flight time on the bird then any other and won first place many times with the plane in different events and it was gone in a flash of sticks.... If anyone of you have un bonded with your Space Walker and live close around Washington and will sell me your Space Walker for 160$ I'll buy it. If not I'll go to Tower Hobbies and buy one there. I would recommend this plane to every body even "Dave" I am a instructor and a flier of 5 years and I have never seen as good of a ARF or for that madder a plane in all my days of flying,, I'm 15 and I am a crazy idiot about flying,, why do we love these planes so much? It must be Man's love of flying. So all you people who want a plane that will live for years buy this plane. I pray that Great Planes continues to sell enough of these planes and does not quit making them... |
The GP Space Walker
Sorry to hear bout your lose.
I'm with you "don't stop making the spacewalker GP". I'm hoping to get one over the winter but not 100% sure I'll have the money yet. Hope u find a used one soon James |
The GP Space Walker
You'll have allot of fun with that plane,
Its a pleaser. |
The GP Space Walker
Sweet machine it was my 2nd plane after my trainer with an OS-91, 14 x 6 APC prop. i flew mine low and slow like a non 3d fun fly.
Sorry about your loss........ |
The GP Space Walker
Sorry to hear about your loss. You might find better deal elsewhere, but it's hard to beat $185 at Tower ($200 - $15 discount).
I just got mine finished RTF this weekend. I had to forego my Sunday flying session yet again to get it done, but it's worth it. G-23 turning an APC 16x6 9200rpm and 10 lbs 3 Oz all up weight should make a nice Sunday flyer. I'd say, get yourself another one and get it flying again. |
GP Space Walker
That's exactly what I'm going to do.
I love that plane with all my hart  I'll probably have to wait until I can save up a little bit because of my small income. |
Pictures!
Hey guys,
Show off some of your pictures of your Space Walker. whether they are in the box or not show em off! I'll show you my first one when I can make the image smaller  |
The GP Space Walker
Let's see if this works.

Here's mine with Giles landing gears and without the wing tips. Plane balances perfectly with Zenoah G23 converted to CH ignition and 3 servos at the tail.
The NC decals are from a .60 Cub. Underside of one wing panel also has larger size matching numbers. Not for scale effect (the mods I did pretty much destroyed any chance of that :)) - just wanted to see the plane better in the sky. |

Here's a shot of the front. You can barely see the G23 hiding in the cowl, which is still being worked on as shown. I have since punched a hole for the exhaust pipe. But that and the hole for the carb are it - not bad for a smallish cowl.

The GP Space Walker
Flew the Spacewalker yesterday. The G23 pulled it off the ground in what appeared to be 4ft! No trim required at all. I left the 6 Oz. cowl off for the maiden flight, so the CG was slightly aft of recommended. Still, it flew as docile as a big-wing Stik.
At 10 lbs 0 Oz dry, my Spacewalker flew no different than the ones I've seen with OS 61FX and 91FS, retaining all the excellent slow flight characteristics that gave this full-scale homebuilt aircraft its namesake. The only thing I wish different is for the wing to be slight shorter so it will fit in my pickup bed better. |

Looks great guys!

The GP Space Walker
I flew mine last year with a Saito 100 in it and was disappointed with the power and I guess it was a little tail heavy because it also didn't fly right, although it was balanced at about 4". Last week I bought an OS 120 at the LHS and what a difference, I can do slow fly byes and then do a real clean vertical turn around. It also flys much better with the added weight. I cannot see how anyone could fly one of these with a .70 in it as some have reported.
If someone could explain how to post pictures I would put one on, I folowed the directions for posting but nothing shows up. |
The GP Space Walker
BTW, I was a bit concerned about the supposed wing incidence problem that some have reported. I didn't alter mine and it flew just fine. Don't know...

Space Walker
I didn't change anything on mine and I have flown
types of aircraft that the Space Walker is and it flew just as the real one would. I had a O.S. 91SII on mine and Although O.S. has more power than Saito It flew just like the real one as far as power. I don't know why people have to have unrealistic power in there planes. Not even an Extra (full size) has as much power as my Space Walker would of had with an O.S. 120... Mine came out at about 9 2\3 lbs I also got sponsored on that plane flying in IMAC so there wasn't any power problems. I admit, An O.S. 91 Didn't hover it but the real Space Walker doesn't hover. Oh well,,, If your going to have to add nose weight if you have a bigger engine go for it. but if you have to buy a bigger engine it makes a 100$ difference for a O.S. 120 over an O.S. 91 |
Engine for GP Space Walker
Oh also,
The one thing on the Space Walker!!! Look OUT IT's Almost impossible to go bigger than a 15\6 prop because of ground clearance, If you get an engine that requires a bigger prop it could be a problem. Thats another good reason to buy an O.S. FS 91 instead of an O.S. FS 120.!!! If you fly off cement it wouldn't be as bad but this plane likes to tip over sometimes.!!! |

The GP Space Walker
So now that I was able to figure out how to post a pic. (with the son's help), here is a little history. OS 120, dummy engine and decals thanks to Sig, landing gear thanks to an old Ace 4-120 kit, MPI on board glow (to slow it down enough to land). I had a Saito 100 in it for 75 flights and got bored to death, put the OS 120 in and have a much better flyer, fly byes at 1/4 throttle and then nice stall turns at the end of the flield with the available power, sounds better at the lower throttle setting, but will kick a-- when asked to. Not everyone's cup of tea but is just what I was looking for.
P.S. Have added a Tru Turn spinner since pic. was taken, looks better. |
The GP Space Walker
Looks great.
One thing though. Look up the http://www.warnerair.com/ and go to (Visit our builders) There Space Walker is just like the GP one. Great Planes Version of one of the Space Walkers is accurate. there are Space Walkers though that have this type of an engine. I'll post a picture of the Real Space Walker. And I'll show you.! |
The GP Space Walker
Here's a II with an external engine:
http://www.dakota.net/~mik/album17.html More pics from the source; this one has metal baffles over the cylinders. http://www.warnerair.com/pictures.html This one also has external engine http://www.spacewalker.org/Pyle2.jpg This page has pics of one with a fully cowled engine http://www.spacewalker.org/index.php...wgall&gid=1&p= The GP cowl may be accurate (except it isn't "lifted" on the sides) but there are other accurate ways to build the cowl. |

Originally posted by Paul Terry Looks great. One thing though. Not very many Space Walkers have that extra ( Cub Engine) hanging out of th cowl. I'll post a picture of the Real Space Walker. And I'll show you.! Personally I like the look of the heads pokin' out the side. |
The GP Space Walker
The Space Walker that I'm talking about is not a cheeked cowled plane.
It's just like the GP Space Walker. Go to http://www.warnerair.com/hster.html |
The GP Space Walker
That doesn't seem to work
try http://www.warnerair.com/ And then go to (Visit our Builders) The Top of the page will show you the real Space Walker! |

Thank you and please come again.
