Hey guys!
I've found a way to do something with the GreatPlanes
SpaceWalker that will really add some detail.
If you take the deck that the pilot glues to and lower it all the way down to the wing
you can have a full depth cockpit! And you can add a full body pilot!
You can then add scale frame bars, seat and everything!
It's really easy! You can do this because of where the servos go.
Unlike most airplanes GreatPlanes has you put the servos in the back of the fuse right at the
back of the wing.
It's almost too easy.
And I think it would really look good.
If you do this you will have to reinforce the sides though.
If you have any comments on this or anything POST!
I'll put up some pictures when I get my cockpit done! :D

Does Anyone know where you can
get a 1\4 scale full body doll for the SpaceWalker?
This cockpit will be so cool if I can get the pilot figure for it.

It can be 1\5 scale or 1\4 scale but not any smaller.

Also, I found out the other day that its also real easy to add two landing lights
right under the spinner. The horizontal hole right under the spinner is a perfect
place to putt two lights or L.E.D.s and with a flip of a switch on your radio you
can have landing lights .
This looks really cool on a final or late in the evening when you are landing!

Alright,
You have all seen the post that
started this thread about My SpaceWalker crash.
If you don't remember go back and read the first post.
Anyway I finally have a new SpaceWalker and I can
enjoy the hobby again! Yeah!:D
I guess its time for me to bring out the funeral pictures of my
first Great Planes SpaceWalker. Remember, This was not pilot error or
plane error,

Paul,
That's just the way my fuse looked 18 mo ago. Fortunenately the wing had only minor damage. Here she is with a happy Darth back at the stick. Maiden flight today was super. Slow flight great. Flew at 1/2 throttle with the Saito 120 except for vertical. Split S, Immelmann's, Cuban 8's all with ease. Landing SOOO much better too. This is a great plane. Pete

Thanks Paul. I didn't fly Sunday as the winds were picking up here. Three good flights on Saturday helped ID a couple of problems that I fixed already. I will try to get some in flight photos and post them. Pete

Here is another SpaceWalker only this one isn't being flown by just any engine.
can you guess? This plane isn't just for glow engines, If you want to you can make this electric.
its pretty easy. As I said in my review this plane is so versatile:D

Spacewalker II arf from seagulls, at $119 you cant beat the price and assembles quickly with a few modifications to the manual procedures. 63 inch wingspan but not quite up there with the GP model.

I just bought that new Futaba 6EXA for it and I'm going to add landing lights and flaperons!

My Futaba 6EXA is a great radio and I would suggest anyone to use this radio if there looking for something to go with this plane. It cost as much as any other 6 channel but has quite a few more features! Then there is the O.S. 91FS This is a great engine for this plane and powers it
great! and it doesn't cost an arm or a kidney to get it!
The fuse is very spacious and very easy to work with too!
This gives you lots of choices for things like landing light batteries and full pilot figures!

I've had my GP SpaceWalker for several years now, flying with an OS 91 4 stroke with the pump. Nice flying plane. The two weakest points, IMO, are the ABS cowl and the landing gear wire. The cowl cracks continually so it has been replaced by a fiberglass one from Stan's Fiberglass. The landing gear wire is so weak that even the lightest landing makes it spread further and futher apart. I replaced the gear with another set of the same landing gear but have a brace wire with a spring, running between the two wheels. This has ended the landing gear spread apart syndrome and made it look a bit more scale.

Can you post a picture of your SpaceWalker?
And can you explain more about your landing gear setup?
I'm very interested on where I can get some scale struts or whatever for the landing
gear. but I don't want to move the landing gear out from underneath the wing.
Moving the gear any farther forward makes this plane !QUOT!in my opinion!QUOT! look bad and unrealistic.

Also I did want to say that I have never had any problems with the cowl.
or cowl's. The cowl although thin, is very well painted, you must be careful to keep fuel
away from it because fuel will cause it to crack .
To help prevent this you can Paint it with a Clear Gloss Fuel proof paint. I use Lustricote
And, make sure the cut out for the engine around the cowl is about 3\8in.
This keeps cool air flowing around the engine and keeps the cowling from chipping.
Also I don't understand why you would be having landing gear trouble. The only times I have really ever had a problem is the one time I did a real bad landing.
Remember this plane likes to land three point.
Although I do find my self about once a month or so maybe using my hands to squeeze together the gear but thats about it.

I'm at work at the moment but I'll try to get some digital pictures of the gear tonight. Glad that your cowl lasted, mine started to crack after the 2nd flight. After bascially pasting every surface on the inside with fiberglass and epoxy to prevent more cracks, I just replaced it and haven't had any futher problems.

The problem with the gear is the same as with all the crap wire that comes out of the Chinese factories these planes are made at, the wire is to soft. Not anywhere near being what I would actually call music wire. It isn't just with this plane but all the GP ARF's that I've seen. However, in the case of the spacewalker, with a wire brace between the wheels I haven't had any more problems. GP's isn't the only company whose gear are "soft" as the wire all these far east factories use, seem to come from the same source.

For instance, just look at the postings for the GP GeeBee, people are reporting the gear is a bit weak. So now Robart has stepped up to the plate with a $130 replacement. I can understand the need for companies like GP to get their aircraft built as inexpensive as possible but I fail to understand why they have continued for years now, to let something as critical as the landing gear continue to be made with, IMO, sub-standard wire. Well, enough of the soap box, sorry about that.

Let's see if this works this time. The wire used is picture/mirror wire I picked up at the hardware store. It was for supporting the most weight I could find. The spring and S hook also came from the hardware store. The wire is wrapped around the landing leg and then silver soldered. The wire then passed through the spring and up to the other landing leg. I put some tension on the wire to get the spring to stretch a bit, wrapped it around the landing leg and silver soldered again. I fitted the spring to the landing gear wire by slipping an S hook over the landing gear wire and then attaching the spring to the hook. The picture should make it clear. I also carved a small depression in the wing for part of the S hook to sit in. The whole setup works well and I haven't had any further problems with the landing gear spreading out.
