There ya go, that must have been a really narrow engine to fit in that style cowl (and I wouldn't want to be flying behind a Geo either). Though there are many Spacewalkers out there (not just one "real" one) and numerous cowl styles. Any SW with an aircraft engine will have an external engine (I like that look) or lifted cheeks.

It's been the one plane I have ever really liked in the hobby.

Personally, I only like the Sig 1/3 SW.
Single seat looks better, too IMNSHO.

My Spacewalker may not be real accurate but as I said in my post it is just what I wanted and that is the best part of this Hobby, you can do what ever you darn well please.

Besides I sure woke up a "Dead Thread" didn't I.

Aerostar, I like your SW. I've got a couple of WM 1/4 Cubs that didn't come with dummy engines. Are those 1/4scale Sig units?

What main gear is that? Sure makes it easy to hang a big prop with at chinblocked mounted gear, doesn't it? :) I alos think it's great that we can all do what we like to our models. This is supposed to be a fun hobby afterall.

I just am too Detailed about stupid things and I just dig a rut.
I realize now that the GP SpaceWalker W\Dummy engines is also scale.
I just don't like it when people have to change something about an ARF
like that. OH well, As we all know GP did such a great job with this plane.
I really wish I had another one.

The dummy engine and decals came from Sig, they were originally for a Spacewalker 11. The landing gear came with an Ace 4-120 kit that has long since gone to "airplane heaven" it's fiberglass and somewhere on it is marked LG120 - don't know who made/makes it.

I build all my planes and this was my very first ARF so I just had to personlize it somehow. I have flown were there have been other GP Spacewalkers and they always ask me "where did you find a 1/4 scale Spacewalker kit". As I said before this is exactly the effect I was hoping for.

Don't know why I keep defending my plane, I bought it, I fly it and I like it.

looks Like a work of yourself.
Thats one thing about it. It doesn't look like a GP.
I guess thats a good idea, to somehow personalize your planes.
I think I might do that.

OS Gemini in GP Sapcewalker
 

I just had the pleasure of cartwheeling my favorite plane: a Midwest Super Stearman with a OS 120 Gemini twin. I'm not sure if I can build up the motivation to graft the fuselage and upper wing back together.

I'm playing with the idea of putting the 120 in a GP Spacewalker. The twin should look alright and will provide ample power.

Can anyone give me the cowl width and max dimension from the firewall to spinner backplate ?

Has anyone else tried this combo?

I'm in the process of building my GP Spacewalker as we speak. I just received my Saito 1.20 from UPS yesterday. Once I get farther along I'll let you know.

I'm trying to find out similar in regards to maximum prop size, and what size spinner I should put on with this combination.

Let me see if I can get that measurement for you.

Jim,

I did some measurements of the cowling. Looks like 5" wide, and the directions want the engine placed at 6 1/4" from firewall to spinner backplate.

I'm finishing up my Space Walker ARF and am trying to find the best way to place the muffler of my Saito 1.20. Anyone have any recommendations or pictures. I don't think the curvature is enough to get it pointed out the bottom, given the size of the 1.20.

I have the Saito 1.20 mounted at 90 degrees.

Any thoughts?

Well, I finally did it,
I got my second GreatPlanes SpaceWalker ARF.
If you read the first post that started this thread, you will understand why I got my second
SpaceWalker.
Let me brief you... I loved this plane because it is so realistic and flies as if it was your slave.
It is so loyal to your movements and so graceful, yet it can fly inverted one foot off the ground
and four point rolls etc. I was sponsored with this plane.
I love this plane!

Now for MY review:

This plane builds fast, with all the parts given to you except the glue and "guts"
There isn't much to do except to start reading and gluing.
One of the things I like the most about this plane is all the engine
screws are socket head screws.

You will find that after about 4 nights of 2 1\2 hrs of work this plane is ready.
Another really nice fact is all the covering on the plane is Monocote.

Now it's time for what most people think is the hardest thing to do -
take off for the first time on a plane thats never flown.

After take off you are amazed of how easy it really is.
Hmmm, Let's see what it can do. As you do a roll, it slowly rolls over but with a little elevator while you are inverted it rolls over very straight. As you do a fly by you can hear the O.S. 91FS quietly putting. As you fly by and do a bank you feel as if a crop duster just flew over you (Full SIZE)
I promise this, if you fly at the right speed and about 100ft this plane will fool the
crowd for the REAL THING!

The O.S.91SII FS engine perfectly matches the real SpaceWalker capabilities.
With an O.S. 91SII FS this plane can hardly hover, but that doesn't mean that this plane isn't fast, with a 14\6 prop it reaches very realistic speeds.
If you have a slight wind you can get this plane to park in the sky at idle, its like a scale plane.
This plane is big, but because of its small fuse you can easily fit it in a mini van.

I would recommend this plane to anyone who wants to "enjoy" the hobby and just go sit
in a lounge chair or wants to be on there toes with flying over the runway inverted.
It is very versatile.

You can see how big this plane is, but don't be fooled by the plastic over the plane.
The monocote is not wrinkled.

Great Review.

I finished mine but haven't had the time to fly it . Mounted the engine inverted and installed
a glow driver. Can't wait to try it out.
