Default Accu-Cycle Plus - Problem

Hopefully someone in here has seen this problem and can advise me as to whether it's an easy fix or... just ship it. My Accu-Cycle Plus has worked flawlessly for 2+ years, and yes... it was reasonably accurate on both Tx and Rx sides, verified by independent voltage readings. However, it has suddenly developed a problem. When turning on the unit (with no charge leads attached), it self-tests properly. But when it finishes the self-test cycle, instead of reading "Hobbico" on the display, the green "charge" lights start blinking and it shows voltage numbers on both Tx and Rx readouts. If you plug a Tx or Rx battery in and hit the charge button, the green light stops blinking as it should, but the charge voltage displayed is very low... like 9+ volts for an 8 cell Tx pack and 4+ volts for a 4 cell Rx.

I have tried cycling all the on-off, cell count, and charge amperage switches through their various postions, to no avail. Anyone have a clue as to what would cause these symptoms? I'm not afraid to take it apart if there's a chance I can clean/adjust something to cure the problem, since it is long out of warranty anyway.

Thanks in advance... Gary

I wouldnt trust the thing. I was happy with mine for the first year and a half but then noticed subtle changes in how it would charge certain batteries. Then the cooling fan went out, I found a new one but it still doesn't do a good job on my glow igniter. I decided to get a Dymond Super Turbo, this allows me to do nimh for my electrics. I havn't read the threads about the triton but it does lithiums also.

I have two of them. One also after about two years developed fault. Cuts off charging/discharging much to early leaving cycled cells half full. By the way I never noticed any cooling fan in them.

I just switched mine on to cycle my transmitter and its just humming away. There seems to be something dragging on the cooling fan causing excessive noise. One day I might open it up or just chuck it! Wish I had taken the money invested on this and gone in another direction.

rcpileit-RCU, i have the exact same problem you do! iv opened the unit up several times to try and find the problem, maybe about 5-12 times. its got something to do with the fan becoming old, because it starts to vibrate more violently. To understand what I'm saying, open yours up, and take the 2 small bolts out that hold your fan to the unit.{with the unit turned on} once you do this the noise stops, and is quite as butterfly. once mounted back on, the violent humming starts again. So i was stuck, trying to figure out what to do. after a long time of thinking i came up with this.....if you leave your unit running for about 30-45 seconds the humming stops, as if it was just trying to warm up, which some other people say it has to do. well it never did this when i first got it, which tells me theres got to be a little peace of dust stuck somewhere inside the back plate of the fan. for right now my accu cycle plus is for sale, because i just bought the Elite, awesome unit!! maybe one day ill take apart the fan and figure out whats going on.

I've had the accu-cycle and the accu-cycle plus and they both started having problems after a couple of years of use. I don't plan to buy any more of the accu-whatever chargers.

The early models did not have a fan. About four years ago they introduced that cooling feature.
