Default exploding lypos

just wondering if enyone had actualy seen a lypo explode cos my mates swelled up like a bloon after a long flight he said it happens alot then he just waited for it to swel down again charged it then went flying with it again so was wondering if this was normal or could it have exploded

Overcharging seems to be the biggest danger. I've never had a lipo explode but here are some vids.

Not something i would want to mess around with and I wouldn't trust it after it swells up.

Sounds like your friend is discharging his batteries to low by either running them with a larger setup than the battery can handle, or not setting a lipo cutoff on the ESC to engage soon enough. Either way a swelled cell means an out of balance battery. You then run the risk of explosion by charging the battery without a balancer. I would be careful.
