I bought my son a used E-maxx. I was converting the battery connections from Anderson to Tamiya. I charged up his new Venom 3000's and plugged the battery in and it sparked and the battery almost immediately started to get very warm. It only does that on one of the battery plug on the right. I don't get any reaction when I plug just one battery in and am afraid I have burned the ESC. Just a little history, earlier I bought a solder gun and was trying to solder the new tamiya wire/plug to the existing wire. Once I realized I didn't have the skill to do it properly I purchased some connectors that you can just crimp. Please help. I don't know if I messed up the esc while soldering or if it could be something else.

How do you test the esc? Another question is because it is a e-maxx it has the 2 battery connections. The connection on the left never sparks regardless of which battery but the one on the right sparks. Just to eliminate the same error how did the battery get shorted in your opinion? Thanks for your help.

Do you always plug the left one in first? Also, what connectors are you using? Are you sure the polarities are correct on the connectors?

I am using the tamiya connectors because that is what my battery and charger have. I was pretty careful about not mixing the wires when I was changing the connectors. I opened up the ESC and I cannot see any solder spillage or run off.

You can check to see if they are mixed up for sure with coninuity tester. One of the blacks is directly hooked to one of the reds. It cannot be the same plug, it must be two different plugs. They are quite easy to change if they are indeed switched. Two tiny tangs pryed away and the pins slip right out of the white plastic.

I just looked over the manual and it looks like you have the positive battery terminals going to the wrong batteries. I'm not sure whether that makes a difference or not.

That's a great pic. It shows the two lower wires + and - going to two different packs because they are common. You're right, the two + can be switched OR the two - can be switched.
I'm going to bookmark that pic. thanks. It's alot easier to "see it" than to splain it. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Druss and Guver, thanks for your advise. I looked at your link and fixed my son's truck accordingly. Tested the truck outside, checked battery temps a couple times during his short runs and everything worked great. I appreciate everyones help, my son loves his truck now.
