Default hauling your planes to the field

Just how to you take your planes to the field? Not very one has a trailer to haul their planes and equipment to the field.
All I have is a pickup and put everything in the bed, but I would like to find someway to be able take more than one plane, any ideas?

I would like to see some ideas myself. I just have a pickup with a hard cover that fits flush with the bed. Least the wind cant take them out of it going down the road.

I built one of these out of PVC pipe based on the pictures in the attached thread. I think there is a man on here that sells these as well. I set it in the bed of the truck and throw a bungee over it to make sure it doesnt move then hit the highway. It works great for me and it minimzes the hanger rash. I originally built it to hold two planes, but left one end loose so i could expand it. It now holds 4.

Buy these http://www.harborfreight.com/cargo-h...bar-43569.html for about 10 dollars each. We have three. On goes a few inches from the bed floor. Use little bungees to strap fuselage mounted landing gear to it. The other two are a few inches below the top of the bed and are wrapped with foam pipe insulation (secured with zip ties). Small bungees or rubber bands hooked to the zip ties hold wings securely. We have a hard tonneau cover to keep the wind out. This setup makes it easy to carry two '60 size' planes and three can be carried with creative loading and strapping.

You'd be surprised what can be stuffed in a VW Jetta Wagon if you angle it just so.

I can do an GP Ultimate (27%) and a TFContender .60or a GP Giant Super Sportster (82" WS) and a H9 Saratog, along with gas and glow fuel, field box and one passenger (usually my long suffering wife).

A couple of my friends have trailers that Iam fiercely jealous of. One is the size of a horse trailer. He can stand-up inside and it has a nice workbench at the front with 120v off a converter and fluorescent lighting. Sweet. I am keeping my eye out for a used snowmobile size trailer. Iam debating making my next vehicle a F-150 with cap, but Iwould hate to feed it the rest of the week for my commute.

Imade a fuselage carrier that is just tall enough to hold a large fuselage upside-down (so the ver. stab isn't adding more height) and the wings and smaller fuselages can ride beside it.

My brother used to arrange things to haul four or five. Now we take two. I think we have more fun just dealing with two rather than having to clean and reload a bunch.

I drive an old, 1991 Lexus LS400.  I lay the pasengers seat back and load it up.  I think my record haul was a Laser 200 33% and a Cermark Sukhoi Su31 25% at the same time, along with several gallons of fuel and smoke oil, gas tank, and a bunch of other stuff.  I"ll admit that I had to take the landing gear and the prop off the Laser got get it in..

For normal days, a trainer fuselage will fit in the trunk.  A FunFly 40 will completely fit in the trunk along with the flight box, as will my Super aeromaster.  I"m limited to about 90" wings, but an 82 is the longest I carry.

I can fit 2 two meter pattern planes in either my saturn vue or my toyota prius... or one if I bring any passengers. Or I can fit a few dozen in the motorhome with room to spare

I've just about talked the wife, she has her own planes, into buying a Ford Transit Connect as a dedicated plane hauler. With a couple roll out shelves it would be great.

I use my Ford Ranger with a camper top. I have a removable plywood shelf across the bottom front 3/4 of the camper so I can put planes under neath in the bed and on top of the shelf in the camper top. We had an exhibition event recently at a local National Guard Armory and I took my 110" Balsa Usa Cub, Venus 40, Somethin Extra, Balsa Nova, two Avistars, a .60 sized T-34, Pt-40, Sig Komet, parkzone t-28, parkzone J-3, hobbyzone Super Cub, slo-V, firebird freedom, plus all of my flight gear, and I still probably could have squeezed another plane or two in there if needed.

I used to take my Das Little stick, a Sr. Falcon, Dynaflite .60 sized mustang and a friend in my '68 beetle. It's amazing how much I could get in there.

When I take the Ranger I just bungee the wheels down to a grid & bag the wings. I also use a false gear setup for planes that have the gear in detachable wings.

Have a Expedition EL if I want to take more then 2 planes.

99 Olds van. My partner has a full size Dodge truck and just uses tie downs to hold his planes in, usually two or three at a time. I have stuffed a lot of planes and gear in some pretty small cars over the years, you just have to test fit and move seat positions to figure out how. I only fly with a couple of guys that have trailers and most the time they don't use them.

Got the truck packed for this week end..Dodge Dakota extended cab, a with a cap...I've got a Seagull 90 size 540 edge, a aircraftmfg. Extra 260 with the new DLE 2o (maiden flight tomorrow[sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=what_smile.gif]) and a Mojo 60...I have 2-2x2's cross ways sitting on the top of the bedrails where the cap is clamped down...with foam glued onto one side for protection of the planes setting on them..the Mojo 60 just fits under those two on the floor, which is carpeted. The carpet really helps to keep things from sliding around. The wing tips have a couple of inches of clearance..field box, plane restraint, TX stand (so the $400 tx doesn't have to be laid on the ground), Hobbico elete charger in it's homemade box, 2 gallons of fuel, a gallon gas container, small lawn mower battery and a 24v Sullivan starter....Store the wings for the two planes (540 & extra) on the back seat along with box TX cases..Front passager seat and the floor holds the cooler and any other stuff I plan on taking to the field..And I could still get in a 40 size plane in there if I had one..

I bought my wife a new 1976 to haul the Boy Scouts around and for her errands. I took it over when she thought she was done with it and made it into my plane hauler a few years later. I can haul to quarter size warbirds with wing racks above and all in air condition confort. It also has a battery charger built into the side wall for on-the-go charging. Just turned over 100,000 mi.

Wow, is that a Oldsmobile or a Buick? That was back when cars were made of metal. 454 under the hood?
