Well, after 4 and a bit years, crossed a new milestone in this hobby that I never thought would happen. I SOLD A PLANE!! Very mixed emotions happening during this....normally hang a tail on the wall. Well that didn't happen, couldn't add on to the shop, had to let it go to move on. Yes you can still have new experiences at any point in this hobby!!!

I just can't do it. I have a couple that I didn't fly this summer, even went so far as to take them to the hobby shop to hang them from the ceiling for sale. But would end up leaving them in the car and buying something for them instead. I just can't sell them. They all have a story to tell. It just wouldn't be right[&o]

No, you just have to give up "flying planes" as your hobby and make "doing reviews" your hobby. I can't remember the last time I just went "Flying". It's either testing or video taping a new plane - Then, I rarely ever get to fly that one again. I keep a good supply of favorites around, but I don't get to fly them nearly often enough!
You don't need to be an "expert", but you DO need to be a writer, photographer, videographer, and know enough about HTML to put a web page together.
Piece of cake!

Mike:At the flying field flying my plane!

Mike:No, you don't understand. I'm actually flying MYOWNplane, not a review plane!!!!!!It's weird being out here flying without a video camera pointed at the planewhile I'm flying!!!!
While this is paraphrased it is an actual phone call Igot from Mike last summer!!!!!

Gordon Banks of RCReport fame used to talk about how hard/time consuming it was to do a review. Stopping assembly to get all the measurements, weights, pictures, etc. takes time. I finally limited my airplane headcount to 12. Now I have to move one out to get one in. Three 33%ers and three 30%ers take a lot of room plus the smaller knockaround planes that seem to grow in the corners when you aren't looking. Not to mention the maintenance that constantly pops up with that inventory.

Well, I've got the writing part down, up to my neck in tech reports everyday, videography and photo is good as well. html stuff marginal. Hate proof reading a reviewing reports. But it also sounds like I may have to quit or retire from my current job. Now there is an idea!!
.
Honestly would'nt feel comfortable doing it without at least knowing half of what you two know about flying, assembly, specs, etc... your "intellectual property" never ceases to amaze me.

Yup. In fact, if you've seen my "Witch", that is a project that I had wanted to do for 5 years but never had time. This year I had 4 reviews slated for Aug & Sept that never showed up, so that gave me time to finally do the witch.
And as a side note, one of those reviews just shipped today, so when I get home from Florida, it'll be sitting on my desk... Read that as, "I have to fly/video it in Minnesota in November!"

Well, I had to chime in here.......I bought a TF Cessna 182 "kit" in 1995 and started on it and worked on it on and off until 2008 when I decided that I lost interest and took it to the LHS in it's unfinished state to sell. One of the employeed approached me and asked if he could finish it for me just because he wanted something to do and I said yes. Well, he worked on it on and off for the better part of a year and a half and then did not have the time to continue so I decided that I would get it back.........might as well sit with me rather than with him. The major parts are done and there is a lot of finishing details to do.........so now I'm re-enthused and am going to finish it. Fate saved me from myself!!!!

Ah, my loss was his gain.
