Iam new to RCPlanes and want to get a good electric to learn on. Iwas looking at the Cubs because Ithink after Ilearn to fly one good enough to get a second plane it would be great to put floats on it, so thats my plan.
So far the best one Ican find, with my little knowledge of planes lol, is the Hobbico Flyzone Select Cub RTF. Towerhobbies has it for $220 but with their deal going on now it would only be $200 shipped. BUTthey also have this plane in the Scratch 'N Dent section for $154 with the problem being labeled : "<font size="2">(New / Very Slight Damage) missing cowl & some hardware" So after their sales and buying the cowl it puts this plane at $146 shipped.
So my question to you guys is which do you think Ishould do?Buy it new or buy the Scratch 'N Dent one? being new to this hobby and this website I'm not sure how much ofa gamble this is.
Also any suggestoins on other planes would be appreciated (Just not the Super Cub LP, Idont like the radio it comes with)
THANKS!</font>

I reviewed this plane last summer. I reviewed the RxR version, but I used the same radio that comes with the RTF version. It's an excellent plane. I'd be concerned about the "Missing some hardware" part, but it's your call. For $200 shipped it's hard to beat.

I read your review before posting this actually. it was a good detailed review! thanks!
Im kinda leaning towards just going new. it might simplify the process being that im a newbie and also the Scratch 'N Dent ones do not carry the manufacturers warranty

The plane that you are referring to is a fine speciment, but please keep in mind that at some point you may have to make a choice to go either glow/gas/electric or combo of those decisions.
There is no wrong or right path, its just the path you decide to take. Just make sure that you don't spend too much money before you decide what is your own individual path.
When I started (2 months ago) I bought the Cessna 182 RTF from ParkFlyers (http://www.parkflyers.com/Cessna_Pro...ne_p/4303d.htm) and enjoyed every minute of it for 2 weeks.
My friend who started at the same time with me went with the Cub RTF and for one reason or another we could not get it to fly right. It looked to me a bit underpowered compared to my Cessna. It may be my imagination, so please don't take my word for it.
Whatever you decide to do, you will be very happy with ANY plane ... I am sorry if I went off subject ... Just trying to share some of my experiences.

One of the nice things about the Cub is that you can use the Tactic 2.4 radio in other planes as you advance. It is a very basic, 4-channel radio, but as basic 4-channel radios go, it's probably one of the best I've seen.
I have also flown that Parkflyers Cessna, and while it is a very nice plane, I think the Cub is a tad better for a rookie

I went ahead and bought the Cub select new. Just figured it'd be worth not having to worry about anything being wrong with it and its also nice knowing that it has the warranty since this kit includes the TX.
thanks for you guys' input. Hopefully I'll get it soon and be flying soon!
