Thinking about buying a deflection meter as my ailerons my be a tad bit off. I know with my flaperon set up they're off (4*60). I've seen two types,,Robart and Great planes.

Just thinking of what you all may use or if there's an alternative or trick to the aileron deflection trade that I've been missing.

I use the great planes, the cheap version and they fine, GP also make a laser deflection meter.

I don't use anything. I set them the way I want them and eyeball them. I don't use the factory settings because it isn't enough. I set them to what I feel like. If I want to see if they match, I eyeball them there too, or use a ruler. Just another tool in a drawer that you don't use after the first time you use it and realize it isn't needed. If you need another way, run the ailerons to full, use a piece of clear plastic, mark the trailing edge of the wing and the trailing edge of the aileron or flap, move it to the other side and see if it matches. Otherwise a protractor works, or a compass to measure distance, or whatever else you have laying on the bench or in the drawer.

In order to accurately measure your flaps, you need a deflection meter, as you stated as shown in the link below;

I believe what your talking about is a deflection scale measures in inches, the other the GP laser is actually an incidence meter.

A deflection meter uses a weighted pointer and measures in degrees. Have the airplane wing level , use two and you can easily and accurately calibrate your flaps. Flaps need to be equal, otherwise your plane will drift, not good on landing. These are also great for calibrating split elevators.

Re-read my post above and I come off sounding like a know-it-all. That wasn't my intention. I also didn't mean to sound as if I was discounting Flyboys ideas.

I just really like the deflection meters. To me they are really easy to use and accurate.
