Default Help me with my Extra!

I started off on a .45 2 stroke big stik and purchased an extra 300s Seagull Models Aerospace Extra 300s years ago.I only flew it once and everything was stripped for a buddy who wanted the engine etc. I was able to find the plane online http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...5#quickSupport .

I have been dying to get back into this hobby. I now have more free time can't wait.

I need some help.

1. Can I get bubles out of the body of the plane using an iron or heat blower?
2. I need some advice on what to do about the cowl. I do not have the one that came with the plane. And the item is discontinued .
3. What servoes should I look for? I need to make sure they are strong enough etc. I know there are a min of 5 needed, possibly 6. It has been so long since I have been in the buying market and I am not up with all of the terminology. I just purchased a Futaba with 5 servos and reciever online. What do I need to look for to make sure they are strong enough?

Any advice you guys might have for me before I buy all my supplies/field box would be helpful!

Thanks!

###YES

###Fiberglass Specialties may have it.

3. What servoes should I look for? I need to make sure they are strong enough etc. I know there are a min of 5 needed, possibly 6. ###That looks like a large Extra if its sitting on twin bed> .. ball bearing / high torque servos would be my guess.

Any advice you guys might have for me before I buy all my supplies/field box would be helpful!
###With that said.. your going to be spending some $$$on a motor and other items to get her up the "code" It looks a bit rough presently and I'm not so sure that airframe is up to snuff safety wise as this is a plane that will experience some strong stresses and the components (control horn mounts, hinging, wood itself, etc)may no longer be up to the task looking at what seems to be fuel residue that may have been sitting for a bit.

###For what it's going to take to get that model flying reliably and safely, if it were me, I would pick up a current ARF which is proven and gives a much better chance of success which would also be aerobatic. You could always work on the extra on the side taking your time since you'll havea plane to fly and be much less likely to rushgetting the extra in the air.Just some thoughts to chew on....

Funny you say that- Today I went on craigslist and landed a deal on a plane from a local for 50 bucks. It is a trainer type plane. I'll have it up in no time and then I can focus on this extra (or buy a different one!).

Your Extra looks like a Seagull Model. I have one just like it and it's a great flyer with a 60 size 2-stroke or a 91 4-stroke. I have a YS 91 AC on mine and it was my favorite until I stripped the threads on the crankshaft. If you've been out of the hobby for a while, getting your thumbs back in shape on a trainer is a good idea before tackling this bird. It's very responsive. That translates to "you can get in trouble very quickly"[:-]. Welcome back to the hobby!

BTW, I run Spektrum gear and I used DS 821 servos without a problem.
