Default How do you do it?

One of our club members is building a P-51 and wants the canopy to open and close when the gear goes up and down. He is using 2 retract servos for the gear. Will need to use some kind of servo for the canopy. what kind would you suggest ( not necessarily the brand).... Will it require 2 Y-servo wires? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

He could of course use two separate channels or a separate channel slaved to the retract channel. Too avoid a bit of complexity there he could use two Y cords but of course he would end up with one dead ended female.

What I would do and be my preference would be a all three servos (I would use a retract servo on the canopy also) hardwired and soldered up in a custom length three way Y. This greatly reduces additional resistance from an excessive number of plugs and I would only use one plug for wing removal.

Multiple hardwired Y setups work fine and I have done so up to six Y,ed servos for throttle with a few for three and four engine airplanes. Also have done several three ways for twin rudder and nosewheel setups.

Sorry can,t help with the canopy rail set up as I have never done that.

John

I think John's got the right idea for leads. As far as the canopy rails go, "RC Report " I believe had a how to a few years ago. It may have been done by Frank Tiano, Dick Pettit might remember also.

One thing I would be real carefull about hooking the canopy up with the landing gear : When the gear goes down the canopy opens and you suddenly have a very large change of air flow on the plane, could make for some real EXCITEMENT!!!! ENJOY !!! RED
