Hey everyone!
New to this site and to RC flying. I'm addicted already! Bought a Hangar 9 Alpha .40 RTF trainer and learned how to fly on that. Second plane is coming soon. Ive already started to mod my Alpha. Converted to a tail dragger with lots of info from RCU. Im currently working on taking the dihedral out of the wing and made new ailerons for it. (1 3/4" vs 1 1/4") More pics when that is complete.

Hey Yoshi,
Nice looking mods to clean up the Alpha.
Your langing gear sure are bolted on secure
... One thing I have done, and han help new pilots with keeping some hard landing damage to a minimum is use nylon bolts on the landing gear.
With 4 bolts, you will have plenting of holding power, but they can still shear off in a really rough landing. What you have will keep the gear on, but take the mounting plate and some of the airplane sides off in case of an incident. Just an option. Use the same size nylon bolts/screws to fit the holes and blind nuts you just installed.
It has worked for me more than once before
Have fun with the hobby...

Indeed welcome Yoshi to the site and welcome to the passion. Beware the passion can become a lifetime passion!
Nice job on your trainer mods. I am curious though it appears that you extended a rod from the rudder axis down through to the tailwheel axis, I must be missing something how can that work through the 25 degrees or so between the two axis.
Just a though if you really want to make it a great flyer don,t just flatten the wing as you said you intended but go all the way to the neutral roll axis and droop the wing about the three inchs at the tips or roughly the same droop as it formerly had in dihedral.
Just flattening the wing only gets you half way there.

Welcome to the world of RC, where dreams are only as big as your wallet......Welcome to RCU and good luck, Dave

Then after a while, your dreams become bigger than your wallet. I can attest to that.....
Planes are a lot like boats...just a hole where you toss your money....

Thanks a lot everyone!
Wings are now flattened, pics to come soon. Im part of a little private club with just a few guys where we fly.
The tail wheel rod is bent at 90 degrees and up through the fuselage into the rudder. Looks decieving on the pictures. Works pretty good for the tail wheel being rudder controlled only. I think i am going to have to replace those metal bolts for the mains with nylons. I didn't think of that. Thanks for the tip.
Going to flying later today hopefully if the weather cooperates. Ill take some pics then and post later.
Cheers!

And congrats on making good use of the site. Many start asking questions before they read anything, which makes it really hard to communicate since they don't even know the terms yet. There is so much info on RCU that a person could do just about anything from old posts alone, but of course requests for help and clarification are always welcome.

Welcome! RCU is a great place to learn and hang out. I met some good friends in here and if you stick around I'm sure you will too. Welcome to the new addiction as well.
