re airplane starters, all the starters i see need a 12v battery and are bulky and unappatizing. then i saw this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Align-Superior-S...ht_3652wt_1037
it seems kind of expensive, but does anybody have one, and have an opinion about it? does anyone know of a cheaper one like this particularly one with lipo batteries, of which i must have more than 20....
thanks!

It looks neat, but no way I'd spend $125 on starter. Any of the 12v models can use a lipo though. A 3 cell should be enough to start anything under a 1.20, but as you go bigger you'd probably need a 4 cell.

And this is the reason why .... [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2zJpLwTAnU[/link]
While I still use my old "wires connected to the 12v battery" job for both my nitro plank and heli, as far as that Align starter goes, I think it is a great case for the old saying "you get what you pay for"

If you have lipos already, pick up a Magnum starter from here:http://bpassociates.homestead.com/bp.html Max provides great customer service.
A nice 4S 14.8V lipo would start just about anything...

I just attached an 18 volt battery to the bottom of my H-9 heavy duty starter, just a cheap $9.00 battery from Harbor freight. It rolls over a G-62 like it was a 1/2A.There is no real reason to be buying a high dollar starter unless you just want one. Do a search here on RCU. It was just last month several of us went to the John Buckner School of starters and did our own conversions. The three hour charger for the 9 volt battery is only another $5.00 and works great.

Thank you John for sharing. The first time I took my new 18 volt powered starter to the field I was just using it on my own engines. No big deal, my starter has always rolled over my 1.20 four strokes and even my small gas engine. One of the guys was having problems starting his new DLE 20 so I gave it a zing for him, no big deal, even on 12 volts it would do that. Then a friend was having problems with his DLE 30 and the fellow with the big engine starter had his starter nose cone break while trying to fire it up. I went down and asked if I could give it a try. Scared thecrap out of me it rolled it over so quick. I then tried it on a DA 50 and it felt like the spark plug was removed it rolled over so easy. When I got home I tried it on my G-62 and it works very well. For $10.00 you can make any cheap starter a real crank breaker. The battery pack works slick as can be and is an easy set up.
