Go find your local hobby shop and inquire about local flying clubs. There should be someone there who can assist with help you learn to fly and gain your confidence. Remember Confidence comes with experience. Experience with a seasoned instructor will make all the difference. To me one of the greater rewards with this hobby is the fellowship with others who share a common interest.
The AMA also has club listings for the location you are at: http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx

Download is free FMS. You will need a cord to connect to your transmitter. Have you thought about joining a club. Even better than a Simulator.

For what it's worth, It won't teach you much as your plane will not react like the FMSplanes do. If you learn to fly and land one, that will not help you one bit when it comes to your actual plane. Other simulators are way better, and of course way more cost. Ihave tried FMS and even after flying my 6th or seventh plane, I still couldn't fly the FMSplanes. The real planes either react much faster, or much slower, depending oh the FMS plane you are trying to fly.
Gorish has the best advise though, find a club and join it. Nothing like real hands on training from someone who knows how to fly.

What the hell is wrong with you?!?!?
I dont let anyone fly my planes unless:
1) They make enough money to pay for it, on the SPOT.
2) They know HOW TO FLY a RC plane close to or better than me.
3) Ive known them longer than that day.
4) I know where they live.
Because of the cost of the plane and the LIABILITY of RC planes, they are not something you just say, 'Sure, you can barrow my plane'.

Aaah So sad,
It reminded me one of my flying friend, he was not very buddy buddy to me back in my old country, I just handed him the Radio, and within 5 seconds he lost it, color scheme was very light, and it was already flying for at least 15 minutes and that would go on another 5 minutes. Another fellow flier was on full-throttle with the nose up test and with so much noise and plane got dead stick and his eyes just went off the plane for a while I lost it, searched every where no luck. It was my first 40 size high wing trainer, with standard JR servos 4 of them ASP .46 motor, JR's battery pack, and Hitec's FM Electron 6 Receiver, it was easily $200 to $250 wasted. He got me a 60 size replica of plane, I don't remember the name of it and it was not even worth $100. I lost everything, and that guy who was not my buddy did not even scratch his head, and I had to beg him for that 60 size ARF which turned out to be worthless, and I had to leave it when I was coming to USA.
I can totally understand it, and loss and pain was excruciating, especially when you don't have money to replace it. Losing a plane hurts real bad[&o][&o]

Looks like the OP learned an important life lesson. When you have cool stuff, you'll always have "friends" who want to share your cool stuff with you. But a guy who doesn't have money to buy his own also can't afford to replace yours, and likely doesn't care if he wrecks yours. I remember being the wrecker at around 13 years old. A guy I knew a little bit had a stunt bike back around the time Tony Hawk was famous the first time, and I wanted to try walking it on one wheel like he did. The kid had his seat adjusted so high it wasn't supported by the frame, and when I wrecked the bike the second time it broke off. I didn't care that it happened, and didn't offer to replace it because I was a 13 year old kid with no sense. There is nothing wrong with saying "No" when you have something valuable that requires skill to use. Anyone who can't understand that is not really your friend.
