It's actually not that hard to do if you are familiar with electronics and are good with a soldering iron. If you're not then I wouldn't mess with it because there is too much of a chance of damaging something else inside of the radio.<div>

well all you would have to do is resoder one to the existing contacts and mount it in the molded plastic on top corner of controller

Yes, like I said above. If you're experienced with electronics then it's not a problem. But if you don't have any experience then I wouldn't mess with it. It would be too easy to mess up something else inside of the case and cause other problems with the radio. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but if you are asking the question here on RCU in the forums then it's a pretty good guess that you don't have the experience with electronics that I am talking about here. The choice is of course yours to make, but I wouldn't risk losing an airplane over it if I didn't know what I was doing.<div>

You are not allowed to switch the crystal in a transmitter if you are in the United States. It is illegal for the end user to change the transmitter frequency crystal unless you have the ability to check and retune the output of the radio with the new crystal in it.<div>
</div><div>With being illegal aside, you do not want to change the crystal yourself as the radio needs to be retuned to perform properly with the new crystal in it. It's very possible that you have reduced the range of the radio by doing this, which could cause you to lose the airplane in flight.</div><div>
</div><div><div> If you are interested in the full text of the regulations concerning this matter they can be found at:</div><div>

How do I change the frequency of my transmitter? </div><div>For a unit with crystals: We CANNOT recommend changing crystals to a different frequency. Changing the crystal on your transmitter is illegal unless you have the proper license. The FCC has established guidelines for the modeler's safety and for the safety of spectators. For safety and FCC reasons we must request that both TX and RX be sent to the service center to ensure proper crystal change and retuning to the new frequency. Crystal based radios cannot be converted to another band without parts replacement, and may not be able to be converted at all. Certain radios can be converted, for example, from 72 to 75MHz. Please contact the service center for any other conversions. </div><div>The applicable Federal Regulation is as follows: </div><div>TITLE 47—TELECOMMUNICATION COMMISSION (CONTINUED)</div><div>PART 95—PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES</div><div> </div><div>         Subpart E—Technical Regulations</div><div>Sec. 95.645  Control accessibility.</div><div>  (a) No control, switch or other type of adjustment which, when </div><div>manipulated, can result in a violation of the rules shall be accessible </div><div>from the transmitter operating panel or from exterior of the transmitter </div><div>enclosure.</div><div>  (b) An R/C transmitter which incorporates plug-in frequency </div><div>determining modules which are changed by the user must be certificated </div><div>with the modules. A futaba conquest is pretty cheap at swapmeets. I use them as buddy boxes with a H9 universal trainer cord. They have the toggle switch. I saw two at a swapmeet last weekend for $15/ea.

If you are having trouble using the little button on your transmitter, here is a cure I've been using for years. Cut a small piece of plastic ( coke bottle etc. ) just big enough to cover the button. ( About 1/2 " X 1/2 " ) Then take a piece of ( good ) tape and tape the plastic over the switch ( like a flap ). This trick makes it a lot easier to use the switch and if you are an older instructor it really helps when the button imprints into your thumb and you loose contact and don't notice it instantly. Now ask me how and why I came up with this cure . lol ENJOY !!! RED
