Yes, buy a DLE 20 for the cost of the batteries you will need

Sorry...[&o]

(This would be the minimum battery for reasonable flight. 5 cell would be ideal and 6 cell would become fun.)

But...

You should go over to wattflyer and ask, bottom of the header bar. It's a great plane to build and a super plane to fly. Electric power?? This year I built one and used the OS .91 FS in it. Way more power then needed, a two stroke .46 would do just fine so that may give you a clue for electric power but there should be a gang of people that are flying it over at wattflyer to give you a hand.

I have had good luck ordering electric flight supplies with HK. That being said they offer NO SERVICE on anything,and good luck should something be faulty.

[link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9963__ZIPPY_Flightmax_5000mAh_4S1P_40C.html]LIPO[/link] 51.09

[link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14405__Turnigy_G60_Brushless_Outrunner_400kv_60_ Glow_.html] Brushless .60[/link] 51.79

[link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10331__Turnigy_Brushless_ESC_85A_w_5A_SBEC.html]ESC[/link] 36.59

It will at least give you the right idea. Everything listed here would fly the plane nicely if not a bit of overkill on power.

Gray Beard has the right of it however.

I flew the one on glow with an O.S. 48 fs, Super Tigre 45, K&B 65, O.S. 70fs. So you do not really need a lot of power for it. If you want to have a ROCKET Cub, sort of like a Super Sonic Turtle, use:

motor

Battery

ESC

Prop, APC 16X8.

Will make the plane go almost vertical with about 10 to 15 minute flights with just cruising around doing T and G's I have this setup in a Low Wing Trainer I use to haul gliders up. It has plenty of power. If you want a more sedate type of cruising around. Go with the Tacon .46 and a 13X6 prop 5s 5000 battery.

Buzz.

Thanks to you all for your help. This gives me some things to think about. What scale would this plane be considered?

The full scale Piper Cub has a 35 ft 3 in wing span; yours has a 76.5 in span. Taking these numbers gives you a ratio of 76.5:423 Now divide 76.5 by 423 then multiply by 100 to get what percent of scale your plane is... 18% which puts you at about 1/6th scale. This is based on you not having a Clipped wing Cub though...

Tower Hobby, it's just a 40 size Cub. The full scale Cubs have a huge wing so even a small little Cubs wing span sounds like it's a huge plane.

I got it at the local hobby shop. 80 dollars.Was already covered with a nice cloth covering. I will try to get some pics. I bought a rimfire 42-60 800kv motor for it this should be enough? How does it need to be mounted to the right and down 2 degrees?

Look carefully at your firewall. The right thrust and down thrust may already be built into it. You would not want to add additional down/right thrust inadvertently. Many of the better kits do have this in their plans already.

The fire wall is painted and the marks are not visable. The plan shows where to mount the aluminum ,ount for a glow engine, and to place a washer under the left side of the mounts for the angle change. Would it be safe to asume that because it does not call out for any down adjustment that this is already built into the pitch of the fire wall ? Should I mount the motor two degrees to the left of center ?

I built the CG Cub this year for a friend and as I recall it had no engine thrust angle. Unless thrust angle is built in by the fire wall angle I almost never put any in until after I fly and trim the plane. If it needs some I will add it. Not all planes require it and not all planes require the usual 2 degrees called for. The trim of a plane is decided by the pilot. As an electric it's easy to add thrust as required. A Cub is not a stunt plane, it's just a slow cruising floater so thrust angle isn't a big deal. Mount the motor and fly the plane and see if you want to add any thrust angle before you start worrying about it. A couple of washers behind the motor is very easy to do at the field with electrics. The CG Cub is a wonderful flying machine, you will love it.

In design this is true. However the RC model can do some amazing stuff the full scale can not. I've seen 40 size Cubs knife edge and hover.

True, I see them all the time in pattern and IMAC. I was doing the basic pattern last week with a trainer, not very well but I could get it to do it. Clip the Cubs wing and you have a basic stunt plane or a plane that will do stunts. Amazing is in the eye of the beholder.
