A brief history of my time in the hobby. When I was around 14, my father and I bought a plane at a swap meet. I proceeded to try to learn and fly the plane, with a little help from my brother and father and friends. The plane was named "old reliable" or that is what I thought. The plane did a death spiral into the ground with my brother in control. I remember that plane very very fondly, I could not remember much about, I remembered that it was a little Cub like and had wing struts. I thought at the time that it was a huge plane. I later built an Eagle 20? attempted to fly that a few times, gave up the hobby for 18 years and got back into the hobby several years ago. I have always been trying to find my old reliable, but never with much luck. I just happened to see a poll in Facebook from AMA and Ole Reliable was one of the choices, looked at the plane and yup, that is the first plane that I had. I am going to have to order the plans and build that plane this winter http://www.modelaviation.com/plans-reliable .

Memory lane projects like this can be so rewarding and its wonderful you discovered what that airplane was especially since the odds of that shrinks every year.

Have you built anything else?  Building from plans for a first build might be too much. 

What I lack in intelligence, I make up for with enthusiasm )))))))))))). I have not built planes from plans for a while, but I have a few friends that offer me their advice and I have a mechanical frame of mind. I appreciate your concern, but that would be a third or forth plane this winter, I am still lacking all of the funds for wood that I want ))))))))))). I am probably a better builder then flyer But I agree this plane would NOT be a good plane to learn any building on, if I remember correctly it was a (I am guessing at the term) balsa stick type of plane, with lots of square sticks and cross braces.

Building a stick frame plane is just like any other - It just takes a little longer.

You deffinately have to do this. Unfortunately, you mentioned it here so you will have to accompany it with a build thread as well. Sorry, that's the rules Check out the kit builders forums here and I am sure someone will be able to give you a resource to send the plans in to a laser cutter and get all the formers and wing ribs pre cut. This will save you countless hours and give you a nice product when you are done. I also recommend you order two coppies of the plans.
