Default What do you call these wheel spacers?

For the life of me I can't think of what these are called. They go on a landing gear wire to keep the wheel from getting too close to the bend in the wire.

They are crimp lugs, that will need soldering!

I have used these on basic type planes.. just crimp them around the landing gear and your done... no soldering needed. They keep the wheel from binding on the angle of the gear. You still need a wheel collar or something on the outside. They work really well and you could make them yourself from some aluminum

Try any hardware store in the electrical department. They are often called solder lugs. Sometimes you will even see them with plastic around the crimp end. You can buy them by the bag, they aren't really a modeling supply.

they are called "non insulated ring connectors", or "non insulated lug connectors" it all depends on the manufacturer as to what their called, you'll probably have to go lowes, home depot or maybe harbor freight to find them, key word is "non insulated" and be warned, there's all kinds of different styles/sizes available

Thanks. The ones I have are from 20 years ago from my first pass through this hobby. I just assumed they were R/C specific.

They are called Du-Bro "Right Angle Wheel Spacers" Cat. No. 342. Three to a pack. There are some on Ebay. I have used them for years with just a crimp - no soldering.

That's the one - thank you. Too bad Du-bro doesn't make them anymore.

StaCon and Tyco make similar crimp/solder lugs in various sizes. Home Depot sell the Tyco products.

I just use a wheel collar on both sides of the wheel.

Once people figured out you could just buy them at the hardware store I don't think a lot of the LHS stocked them. The ones Dubro sold were a heavier material and worked very well. I just use a washer soldered onto wire gear and I use the wheel collars on screw on axles. Sometimes just washers loose if the plane has wheel pants. Whatever works.

I like soldered washers (or any bit of scrap steel with a hole in it). I've never had a wheel fall off with a (silver) soldered washer.
