I'd like to fly.

However, I would like equipment that I can grow with. A transmitter that Ican use with flight simulation on my PC (Windows 7). And also a transmitter that can be linked to another transmitter for training. But something I can grow with.

I would like to learn glider type flying. I was told at the local place where guys fly by my house to get a Radian.

But what controller should Istart with, and what flight simulation I can use with it.

You could get a Futaba 6EX. More than enough for a glider with room to grow.

Is Real Flight the best Sim out there?

But I'm not sure Ican spend that kind of cash ($200) on the Sim software. It that really the best way to go? I also want my 12yo boy to learn too and feel this might be the best way to minimize crash expense.

And $200 job, are you referring to the Sim? Or a transmitter that can hook up to a computer? I'm assuming that some transmitters cannot?

He bought RealFlight (Version) 3.5 but his kids broke the transmitter that came with it (They come with a transmitter or a cord for using your own transmitter)

So he then bought RealFlight 5.5 (Newer version) and he's keeping it away from the boys.

Servos are interchangable, but Tx/Rx are proprietary.

If you don't have servos, you might as well get them with the radio

Well I was able to get a brand new Futaba 6EX Transmitter today, everything that normally comes in the box minus the receiver for $65 So I need to get the receiver to complete the deal.

I'm leaning towards getting a Parkzone Radian as a first plane. If anyone has input on this I'm all ears. I'd need to get the version that I can build up with the Futaba 6EX. I think the PNP version of the Radian has servos right, anyone know for sure? Would it be advantagous to get the Pro version? Or another plane altogether?

And while at the local hobby shop today I picked up a copy of RealFlight 6.0 with the air mega pack for $215 out the door.

Been messing with RealFlight. I definitely need training and practice. Not as easy as I thought / hoping it might be. The hard part is when it gets far away determining which orientation the plane is. Anyone know what plane to use that would be most comparable to the Radian? But I'm glad I bought the program hoping that it will help spare the potential crash costs.

I got real flight basic, but then stepped up to the full version. Unless money is really tight, the full version is worth the extra price.

One advantage to going Specktrum is the bind and fly planes that come with Specktrum reciever, such as the Radian Pro.

The Radian is rudder/elevator, where the Pro has flaps and ailerons. I flew a buddy's Radian, then bought the Pro. They are both fun to fly. The Pro requires a bit more attention and doesn't self-correct like the Radian, but is more aerobatic.

In a normal trainer, the Apprentice I think is a good choice. It flies well, it is tough, parts are available at a reasonable price, and it has enough power to float fly.

I got the RTF that comes with a DX5. It is non- computer radio with no model memory, so if I were to have to do it again I'd have gotten a DX8 right off the bat and got the plug and play Apprentice. Then gens ace batteries from nitro planes and their 4 bank charger and power supply.

Soon you would want a charger that tells you how much it took to bring a pack to full charge, and being able to charge multiple batteries of different chemistry or capacity at the same time is very handy.

Yes, I understand Ineed to get battery(s) and a charger(s). I've not looked into this much yet. I'm open to suggestions.

P&P planes generally come complete except reciever, and sometimes batteries.

It is no big deal to install a reciever. Battery wise, a couple friends suggested gens ace from nitro planes. They are much cheaper than the name brand, can be recharged faster, and seem to perform as well or better.

I recently re entered the sport after havin done line control and a 1 channel as a kid.

I got the Apprentice first, then the Radian Pro.

Best advice I could give is get with an experienced flier or two, don't get discouraged if you bang something up, and have fun.

I need to get more insight into these acronyms. Ithought the PNP (Plug And Play) meant that you install the rx and battery. That they come with motor and servos. This is the route I'm looking at.
