BIG HEAT!!!
I woke up at 5 this morning and had my coffee then headed out to fly. Heat warnings for all week here in the Vegas area. Nothing strange about that this time of year. However, when it's 110 in the shade by 9am and there isn't any shade it's time to go home.
It's a dry heat though, sort of like fire!!
It's only noon now and I'm thinking it is already 115.
I'll work in the shop for a while then head to the pool. Harley and I still got in a couple hours of flight and BS time so it has been a good morning.
Maybe a NAP instead of the pool?? Just so many choices!

We're getting lucky so far this year. Last year we had 100+ days of temperatures over 100°. This year we've had a few hot days like that but so far it's not so bad. With other parts of the country pushing 100+ temps we are in the cool 90's and loving it!!!!!<div>

It hasn't been too bad here lately, but it's been raining everyday. In a way your lucky Gene, you don't have to deal with the humidity. Last year it was averaging 105 with humidity in the 90% range.

LUCK???????????The Gray Bearded Old Poop has read about humidity once and decided never to live anyplace there is any!. Not luck, Choice!!
Once upon a time, way back in the olden days, my rich uncle needed my help. He put me and a bunch of other fellows into funny looking green clothing then stuck our young butts way up in those Ozarks, so far in the Ozarks we had to drive 125 miles to dance with a girl. I said dance, back in the olden days girls didn't want to get to know young men that wore funny green clothing?
As I recall the other elf's told me that sticky crap was Humidity!! My rich uncle kept me there for a couple of years and when he asked me to stay I said no thank you sir! I didn't like humidity even a little bit and have never gone back to any place that had it. I haven't looked but I think our humidity is at 6 or 7%. AZ is hotter then here and you guys catch the Monsoons before they get here. We have monsoons to look forward too pretty soon, that is often fun but they bring along some of that humidity crap and it sticks around for a day or two.

We hit 112 this afternoon at the field and 88 at 5:30AM so flew 5;30 to 8:AM. The relative humidity this AM 7 percent climbing to 18 in the PM fairly typical pattern in our monsoon season.
GB your dry lake is a highly effective convection cooker for a runway. Our 'secret lake' is is one ridge line to the southeast of your El Dorado Lake. The elevation is about the same as our homefield and both in the same valley but that bright reflective surface of the lake for miles in all directions makes for a far less pleasent experiance when general temps hit over a hundred. Compared to the regular desert scrabble and sage surface in all directions around our field.

Hey Guys. I know some of you won't believe it, but we are in the mid 30's, with humidity through the roof. So much for the Great White North. NOCOMPLAINTS. I heard a good one on the radio today, " If you don't like this heat, you will love December"
I posted some pictures in January, it was - 4C. Someone replyed that it looked like a cold and desolate place. Right now, desolate, maybe, cold, not.
I have heard that one must intake plenty of liquids in this heat. Doing my part. Hope all of you in the south, are ok. Be safe in this heat.

Really hating Manitoba right now. Would r Wather be with Grey Beard back in Vegas than here. Damn I miss Vegas! Would love to fly there on one trip back there.

100+ for NV and AZ this time of year is normal and with it being so dry I almost never sweat here. When it hits 110 at 9am I did break out a sweat this morning and was smart enough to get off the lake bed. We had our first little monsoon flow through last week and it rained on the 4th. That was nice but on the 5th we had the hot mug with the humidity.
I have several dry lake beds in the area and I have flown off of two others. The others you don't see other people on very often. There were only 4 of us there today, most the time there would be 15 or 20 guys. Guess they pulled up the weather report?

Same situation here in Texas. I can handle being out in 101-102 because I had jobs when I was younger working in the heat, but much above that and it drains me. We've had some 105 days already, and won't really have comfortable days to be outside again until the end of September. I can't really complain though. Texas actually had a springtime this year! We didn't know what to think.

Over here it's around 18-20 degrees centigrade and it has been raining a lot!
New rain record has been set in June and if this raining is going on, I think july will also set a new rain record.

Reached 114 degrees here yesterday and I cancelled all flying untill it falls below 90 degrees. Couple the heat with no breeze and a dry lake bed your asking for a heat stroke. If you and your airframe can tolerate such conditions more power to you.

The home field here this morning about 5:00 AM, 81 degrees and 21% relative humidity with a dead calm. On its way to 101 in the noon hour.
Really pleasent flying for several hours anyway.

I'm one of those folks that doesn't perspire much. Yesterday at 9am I was perspiring and yes, I do have shade. I have been flying out there for about 6 years and know how to park my van to get the hatch back shade. evflyers.com will get you to our web site with photos of some pretty funny things like how many guys can sit in the shade of a pick up truck. Several of the guys use those shade tents. Yesterday with it being 110 in the shade at 9am and with me sweating flying my little toy airplanes just didn't seem like something I was wanting to do any longer. I was in the sun starting them then in the sun flying them, no thanks.
One of the things I find very hard to do is get up early, 5am I can do, 4am I can't, well not unless it has something to do with a marsh and ducks in the winter time, then I seemed to be able to get up early? Just to fly my toy airplanes I have lines I don't want to cross and earlier then 5am is one of them. Going out flying when I know it will be 115 by 10am is another. There is a point when the fun factor just isn't high enough!
I will spend time in my shop today though.
