I read in a previous post that thinned epoxy is a good way of fuel-proofing the firewall. I just purchased an Avistar, and would like to do this, but have no idea how or what to use as a thinner to thin epoxy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dan.

Dan,
Use either denatured alcohol, or plain rubbing alcohol, whichever you have on hand.
Mix the epoxy, then add the alcohol a few drops at a time and mix it in until you have the consistancy you want. Then, just paint it on, and let it sit in a warm place.
It may take longer to cure, like a day or two, but warmth will help it cure faster. Don't get it too hot or it will bubble. Just be patient, it will harden up.

I thin epoxy with Methyl Hydrate; otherwise known as denatured alchohol.. Only a few drops though!!
But some will say that this wil weaken the epoxy, making it porous, like a sponge. Also weakening it, making it flexible.
The best methods I found for thinning epoxy, it to heat it. mix it is a cup in a cup of hot water. Like a double boiler.. But remeber, as you heat the epoxy, the cure time decreases! So, 30 minute can turn into 15 minute epoxy! Heat up teh bottles too, in a saucer of hot water..
Also, different manufacturers will have a different consistency. New West Systems epoxy seems to be very runny, ideal for what you're after. LePage's seems to be very goopy.
