Hey guys,
I am new to the RCworld, and am just trying to get into some forums, figured Iwould start here. Iam 19, currently bought a P51DMustang from Dynam and a Hobbyking JU52. Igot the Mustang cause they are my favorite American Warbirds and Ihave worked on one in real life. Ibought the JU52 cause Ihave sweet spot for Tri-Motors. Also theJU52 flies well and its a great beginner plane. Ihave always loved Warbirds and they have captivated me since the day Isaw one so Ifigured Ishould try ******** since out here the cheapest real flight school is 14 grand to get your Private Pilots License. Well thanks for reading, if you have any ideas on where Ican fly Iam in the Atlanta Area. Iwas thinking about checking out Stone Mountain RCFlyer since Ilive close to them.

WELCOME!
you're sure to find TONS of info here.
I'd suggest you read the sticky's, but also one other web site to familiarize yourself with :
the AMA's (Academy of Model Aeronautics) website http://www.modelaircraft.org/
MOST flying clubs in the US are AMA chartered clubs, and require membership in the AMA
(there is also an AMA forum right here at RCU. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_74/tt.htm )
on the AMA website is a club finder.. you may find clubs even closer
http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx
again, welcome and happy flying!

Guntii222, There several clubs in your area much closer to you than Stone Mountain. There is a Cobb County club, Bartow County club, Taildraggers in Carterville, Paulding Countyclub, Douglas County Aeromodelers, and others I missed. Go to the AMA web site, and there will be a "find a club in your area" button. You can select a mileage range (25 mi, 50 mi, 100 mi,etc) and it will give you a read out and a little info on each club. Good luck in your flying.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but neither of those planes is beginner appropriate. Full scale knowledge and flight characteristic don't translate very much to RC. The smart move will be to set those two planes aside and get an RC trainer. The E-Flite Apprentice will do nicely to get your skills up to par so you can fly those park flyer scale models. FWIW, go over those two planes really well before launching them, and then have an experienced RC pilot go over them again. Hobby King and Dynam are at the low end quality wise, and so it wouldn't be terribly surprising to find a glue joint that wasn't stuck or something broken either in the airframe or the electronics.
Other than that, welcome to the hobby. You'll find that RC'ers are very willing to help newcomers as a general rule, and since you've already joined the AMA and are looking into clubs, you'll probably be able to get some free instruction. Many clubs keep trainer planes on hand for new pilots, so ask around before you buy anything else.

Yes, welcome to the addiction. We are always happy to have new blood.
As others have said, you would serve yourself well to get a trainer and an instructor. Otherwise, you will find this addiction very expensive. Many times more so than it has to be.
I would love to hear the story how, at 19, you have had the opportunity to "work on" a full size P 51. I am 75 years old and have never seen one in person, much as I'd love to.

Horrace, I wish I had been smart enough to think of it too. I read it somewhere and it really struck a chord in me so I stole it. I had a hard time deciding between it and "the only thing I can't tolerate in a man is intolerance".

Yes, getting an instructor to buddy box with will save you a bunch of $$$$. Trust the old guys here who have been there and done that.
Is the Red Nose Mustang still a fully functional airplane?

I joined a club before my AMA membership card arrived in the mail. I called AMA and they sent me a document via email showing my AMA card on AMA stationary. My new club accepted that as proof of AMA membership.

I just got my card yesterday and I joined the Cobb county RC Club. I am getting training there. As for Red Nose yes, she does airshows across the nation and is airworthy. She is a commemorative Air Force aircraft. We have a P63 King Cobra that should be airworthy in 4-5 years. Check out our website just google Dixie Wing.
