pretty simple its just knowing what its covered in?

all have diferent temp's at what they will shrink at so start with our iron LOW, and pass over the wrinked area turn the temp of the iron up untill you see the covering begin to shrink

(NOTE) give the iron time to heat up before turning it up further or you will have nice holes all over your plane [sm=tired.gif]

take your time with it if it the first time you have played with covering, its funny stuff untill you learn how it works then its fun

BTW this works well on the wife too, mine is 90 yrs old now but looks 23 but i need a more powerfull iron now

All Hanger 9 planes are covered with Ultracote (also called Oracover in Europe). The best method is to use a heat gun and keep it moving. Once a temperature is reached with Ultracoat you will have to exceed that temperature the next time it needs shrinking so don't use any more heat than necessary. Use a soft cloth to press the covering onto the framework as necessary. If you only have access to an iron cover the iron with soft heat resistant fabric. I asked the lady in the local fabric department for these qualities and she sold me fabric that is made for baby diapers. It is very soft and heat resistant. One covering over the iron normally will last through an entire covering project for most sport size planes. A half yard (under $2.00) will last a very long time.

Be careful of using the heat gun near to seams. You may accidentally overheat the seam and it will become loose and result in more covering sagging and wrinkling. Cover the seam areas with a wet rag to keep it cool when using a heat gun. FWIW
