Default Hello All

My name is Andy and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I have been out of flying for almost ten years. Now that I have more time on my hands, I would like to get back in to it. My planes are all nitro, and every year I have put after run oil in them to keep them 'preserved' if you will. I have went through my electronic items (JR YP6102 and Spectrum DX6i ) and I am starting to make sure that the battery packs are in serviceable condition. I may end up having to replace them - time will tell. For the last couple of days I have been cleaning engines and checking my planes. When I stopped flying, I had moved from an Ultra Stick .40 to a Hanger 9 Miss America. I am getting ready to go to the LHS and see what they have to replace the Ultra Stick - I want to get re familiarized with the Stick before moving on. I still have the Miss America and would like to fly it once I am back in the swing of things. My other ARFs that I was working on include a GP Super Stearman, a GP Shoestring, Thunder Tiger Rare Bear, and a CMP De Haviland Mosquito.
The engines I have are Evolution 46s, KB 61, MDS 68, Thunder Tiger 120 (2 strokes), and a Saito 100 and OS 120 pump (4 strokes).
My question is what type of fuel will work best for these engines? I honestly cannot remember what mix/ % I was using when I left the hobby.
I appreciate any advice or suggestions any one can give me. I have to tell you working on the engines - it's good to be back.
Andy

Welcome back.

You sure it's been 10 years? The DX6i came out in 2009 +/-. Even so, if unused the tx and flight batteries are probably questionable.

10% or 15% nitro with 18% to 20% oil ( http://saito-engines.info/fuel.html ) Some say YS & Saito need 20% nitro. I'm a proponent of run them with whatever you used when you broke them in.

There is never ending debate between castor, synthetic or blends. S&W, PowerMaster, Omega - all are good.

The DX6i came to me when I had my short but expensive career as a Blade 400 pilot. I couldn't get out to flying fields so I figured a Blade 400 could be flown much closer to home. Still have the heli, but looking at some of the newer ParkZone planes it would appear that the DX6i may be useful after all.

I'm happy with mine. Add the AnyLink (or AnyLink2) to it and you have a great small-model transmitter for all the e-Flite, ParkZone, FlyZone etc. offerings. It's pretty good as a LARGE model transmitter for a fair price.

I added a back-light to mine as well.

Back from the Hobby Store. Got new epoxy, and a Seagull Pilatus Porter ARF. The only Ultra Stick they had was one on consignment. It was the big one (120, I think) with a big 4 stroke. Came complete with radio and ready to fly. Guy was only asking 1270 dollars for it. WOW, guessing it will hang for awhile at that price.

How did you do the back-light?

Welcome back Andy! Good for you having more time now, cant wait till I do. I'm with Charlie on the fuel, 10-15% nitro and 18% oil content, brand wise I'm a wildcat user. Good luck and smooth landings!

There are a half-dozen tutorial videos on YouTube showing how to do it. I used the Turnigy "kit" but added a 12v toggle switch to turn it on or off once the master switch is on.

Also excellent written instructions here:

I usually just get a gallon of 15% nitro cool power (which has 16% synthetic oil in it) and add a tablespoon of castor oil-close enough for me.

Welcome back Car, flight batteries don't last more than 2 yrs. Replace those, if possible use LiFes, they are stronger and longer lasting than NiMh.
