Yah, many events are 2.4 only anyway. I fly at many large events each year, including the AMA Nationals. There is no frequency control at all.

One of the best reasons for having badges or name tags is to keep some degree of fairness in each's chance to fly. If you have lots of members there are always a few who think that they can jump in front of any one and hog the flight line. If you have a Que line where each flier puts his badge on the back end of the line if he intends to fly and then can fly when it reaches the head of the line (it moves up every time the badge at the head of the line goes to the flight line). This has removed the biggest problem we had as we only allow 4 planes in the air at one time on normal flying days and every one gets the same chance to fly without fighting for a spot on the flight line.

I fly in two different fields, a small 60 members one with no board, very few fly 72, they just go around announcing their intentions.
The other field is 200 members and there is a board.
2.4 needs no pin on either club.
I dont see a reason for a 2.4 pin!

We are having many discussions about this in our club.

I believe what Brian was trying to say is this " The club uses a frequency board and slots for the members AMA card for 72 MHZ and a board with slots for 2.4GHZ" The reason this is done so the Safety Officer can keep track of who has their AMA card with them and who doesn't". The 72MHZ flyers can keep track of which frequency is used most on the field so if they want to purchase a new radio on 72MHZ, they have an idea of which frequency is open. I belong to one of the clubs the Brian belongs to and a lot of the club members don't go to other clubs fly-in so they won't buy 2.4GHZ radios. The club I belong to has 35 members. We use four flight stations and only allow four planes in the air at one time. Most of the members allow others time to get in as many flights as they would like. It's a very lay back atmosphere.......

No frequency controls is really irresponsible on the part of that other group. Unless they are all 2.4. Do they even sell 72 mhz radios anymore? At this point, I can see no reason to stick with 72mhz. But I was one of those that wanted it as soon as it came out.
Like you said, this was supposed to be a solution for insuring that fliers are members at a larger club where you don't know everyone. Unfortunately compliance isn't good. I checked this morning and there were probably 8 or 9 pilots flying and 3 badges posted. One of the guys was flying 72.
