Default Need help with a spinner

I have tried every type of force, short of a sledge hammer, to get this spinner on the back plate. How in the world is it done?

Hi Jack,

Make sure the cut out for the prop is large enough. a sharp whack with a rubber hammer should snap it into place.

Jack,

I feel your pain. I picked up two planes that had the same spinner. What a pain in the *****. The only way you will get the spinner onto the back plate is to line up the tabs and then wack the tip with a block of wood. And you have to wack it good or all the tabs may not seat into the pockets. AND, when you go to take them off you have to fit a small screw driver into some slots and pry it off which usually damages the finish.

Who ever designed this spinner had to be on drugs and should be arrested and put away! LOL

I threw mine out after several of the tabs broke off.

Yes I agree this type of spinner is better avoided, but if you are going to use one, then the "swift whack with a rubber hammer" technique works well.

Yeh, you just have to get up the nerve to go ahead and smack it a good one!

It just bothered me whacking the end of my crankshaft with any thing. If it is an electric it would bother me more.

I'd throw the spinner away and buy one that is held on with bolts.
