Default Framing the birdcage?

How and what material is best for making the frames for the canopies on WW2 birds? I see people cut the canopy frames from the Plexiglas areas of canopies supplied with kits and wonder why.
TIA.

Are you planning to make a sliding canopy? Thats really the only reason you would have to build a frame. If your planning to glue and screw the canopy in place as a whole, then theres no need. Then, you would just paint the frame thats embossed into the canopy. If you are actually going for the sliding canopy, which i must warn you, is alot more work that one would think, then theres a couple ways to go about it.

Thanks for the answer Steve, the desire is to have a 3D effect, the model is large enough to show it off whether or not the canopy slides. Even if I secure the canopy in place (not sliding) I plan on separating the windscreen from the rest of the canopy to achieve a two piece look.

But yes, I've been thinking about a sliding canopy even after watching some youtube videos of the guy struggling with his Corsair canopy.

Youd be surprised at how good you could get it to look by painting it. Which warbird are you building. Due to geometry some are harder than others to have a sliding canopy.
