OK guys,I just got my new Hitec Lazer 6 and I have my new Kombat 40 ready to fly but I have some questions.I know I am NOT going to use Elevons cause I still don,t understand what they are used for.I set the Tx to use them and I took them off,too confusing to me. Can someone explain just what you would use them for?I don,t understand when the elevator goes up the alirons go up and down??? Maybe doing some kind of trick flying??

Elevons are for flyhing wings that have no elevator only als . It allows the als to be an elevator at the same time they are alerons . confuzed yet .

For a plane with the sepatate tailsurfaces... you CAN mix the elevator to the ailerons in a mode where the ailerons droop whent he elevator goes up. this is good for extremely tight loops. (caution... can cause severe stall-snap-spin!) This mix is normally a mechanical mix for control line stunt models.

For your Kombat 40... you won't need ANY of the computer mixes. Just treat the computer radio as a non-computer type. Select the correct model # for the Kombat 40. Follow the manual's instructoins to rest the settings to factory default. (even if you never changed anything.) Then go to the travel direction settings and set the correct throw directions. Center all trim tabs (if it has the mechanical type... I think that one has digitals) Now adjust the LINKAGES to center the control surfaces. Verify that nothing binds and the travel is correct. If there is binding or incorrect travel, fix it mechanically (pushrods... clevices...)

Always start out with 100% ATV and MECHANICALLY adjust. Use the computer to trim the throw within the range of 90% to 110% ATV for primary (high) rate. If you need more throw... adjust linkages to get it.

OK,I get it now,I figured it was for somekind of fancy flying. The Laser 6 has mechanical trim so I know how to trim that.Kombat says to set all the throws to one half inch of travel to start with and when I get better then I can change as I get better, sound right to you?
I set the CG this morning and I had to add 2 and a half oz to the tail to get it,does that sound like allot to you or what? It said to do it with an empty tank and that is what i did. Does it make any difference where you put the weights?I mean on the main frame, ofcourse not on the control surfice.
Thanks for your time,I am a newbee at this and have allot to learn, thanks again...Swampthing

Nefore adding weight to the tail... how far from the leading edge of the wing was the plane ballanced?

Maybe the engine can be moved rearward on the beam mounts...

did you try moving the battery back toward the rear of the plane first? Moving thingfs that you already have to carry is better than adding "dead lead."

When adding lead... try to get it as far from the CG location as possible. The further it is from the CG, the less you need to change the CG.
(this is why moving the engine rearward just a little can cut how much weight you need by a LOT)

When adding the weight be sure to get it FIRMLY affixed. I tend to glue it on, then drill the wieght and screw it on then cover with tape if the ewight is on the outer surface of the aircraft. I avoid putting weight on the tailplanes. Try to affix it to the fuselage.

Another way to add weight.. mix some BBs in epoxy and pour that into a cavity in the fuselage. When that sets up... it NEVER moves. (Use caution not to glue the pushrods in place... all heck cutting them free again.)

The Combat 40 has a coroplast tail...if you can't get your CG by moving equipment...one of the best ways to ad weight is steel rod in the coroplast flutes of the tail...even helps stiffin it up a bit. BTW Fred, the Lazer 6 is not a computer radio, but does have elevon and v-tail mixing. It's a cool set up (I have one and so does Sassy) but definately not needed on the Kombat 40.

Default CG weight

Thanks guys, that is some good info. What I did was add the weight to the main frame just under the rutter. The Kobat has a half inch square tube frame or maine boom and the stick on weights are the same size, onehalf inch so they fit fine.I think I will drill them and put some screws in them to hold them on. I have a OS 46FX on it and it is as far back as it can go.I put the weights on the left side, looking from the rear to help with I juess you call it torque roll? If I am messing up please let me know cause I am not going to fly this beast until everything is right! Yea,the Laser 6 is cool and I got it for furture planes I hope!! The head of the OS hangs horizonal on the plane and it is heavy on the right side, that is why I put the weights on the left side of the plane,is there anything else I can do to correct for the off weight?
Again, thanks guys, you all are what makes this sport fun to get into, you don,t mind helping us newbees getting started, for that I take my hat off to you all....Swampthing
