Default Hing Gap on Elevator ????????????

Hi,

Hope someone can help, ive contructed a ARTF kit and ive been told the the gap on the elevator ie: Hing Gap between the 2 surfaces is too big its about 1.2 mm visible gap. Is this too much ?????????????? and would it make that much differencein the air ??

Its impossible to cut them out as the rudder, tailwheel etc are all glued in after soo thiers no way of redoing them !!!!!! If the gap is too much is thier anything else i could use to make this smaller ? i cant add more covering as its a camoflage covering as its a spitfire and its like shelfpaper......

The hinges are CA attached, do you recommend pining them aswell ? do u just use a household pin for this and file it down after ??

Thx in advance for any help

Don't sweat it. A 1.2mm gap is ideal. While some people say to strive for "Zero Gap", this can actually be harmful to CA hinges.

Fly the plane. Afterward, if you decide that you need more control, seal the gap with tape, or covering and you will find that they will become more efficient.

What type of tape would work well? I would think that the fuel would make the tape come off. At least thats what is happening to my other decals.

Basically use whatever covering is already on your plane...

I use clear monokote to seal the gaps. just cut a 3/4" or 1" wide stripe and iron it on with the control surface completly deflected in the opposit direction and when you return the surfsce to neutral run the iron down the seal and it will push the seal down into the hingeline. It will be virtualy invoisable. Doing it from the bottom works best. you will forget it's there.rctrax
