Default Flaperons on an Eagle 2 by Carl Goldberg

I have a Futaba 6x super radio that has a flaperon option and I'm wondering if the Eagle 2 trainer landings would be any easier if I added another servo and took advantage of this option. Has anyone tried this on this particular model? Did the flaperons make any difference in the handling characteristics of this plane?

Not worth the time and effort. With the flat bottom wing, the last thing you need is more float. Save that feature for a fun fly plane.

rreiss is right that you certainly don't need them. I think they're a lot of fun - especially on floaters. I like to see slow I can fly a plane and even make it hover pointed straight into the wind. But if this is your first plane, you're adding unnecessary complication to it. A lot of beginners have trouble getting one servo working right. Flaperons require two very closely matched mechanical setups to work properly.

Yep. Certainly not necessary and might make landings harder because the plane will float too much, but they can be fun to play around with in the air.

I'd still say, save them for your next plane.

If you do it... move the ailerons UP not down, (spoilerons technically) and mix in up elevator. You will be pushing the nose up, and the "reflexed" ailerons will kill lift. Presenting the bottom of the wing to the airstream will slow it down quick. Get the relationship of elevator to reflex correct and you won't gain altitude (but it will drop like a rock when it slows down too much)

You don't want to use full span flaperons on a flat bottom wing. You would be inviting tip-stall and spin.
