I was trying to start my Nexstar for the first time today. No luck. I know my first problem was that I was trying to use a chicken stick. I've read new engines are sometimes hard to get started the first few times. Think i'm going to have to invest in a starter. Quick question about glow plugs. If I take the glow plug out, and hook it up to my glow starter... Should the filament get red hot? It seemed like it was getting warm. But I don't think it ever got really hot enough. Should it just be warm, or glow red hot? Any other advice or tips would be great. Wish it would purr. [&o]

the coil inside the glow plug should turn bright orange. what are you using for a glow starter? do you know about priming the engine before you apply the glow starter?

It's a "C" battery glow plug starter. One from Tower Hobbies. I actually tried 2 different glow plugs. And it's a brand new battery that I put in the starter. And I did prime the engine before I tried starting it. There were some bubbles in the gas line while priming it. Is that normal?

If it's a new engine trying tightening the high end needle valve all the way in. Stop when you feel resistance. Then back it off 2 1/2 to 3 turns. Then try starting again. Once it's running throttle up and you may need to readjust the needle valve again to dial it in.
