Default It's finally over

After a couple of weeks of looking and licking my chops i made a decision,i finally made up my mind on the Alpha 60 RTF,it wasn't a easy job because there are several different ones i was also looking at but it's history now.
I'll get me an instructor and need to get the AMA going now.

10% should be fine for now.

What did you have to give for it? I have been watching these also. I have the forty size and love it. I thought it would be nice to have the .61 for future planes.
Keep us informed I hav'nt heard much about these, so I have been holding off buying one, I cant imagine it beeing much different than the Alpha .40.

Congrats on taking the plunge!

Yeah, 10% is all I ever use. It should be fine (and a bit cheaper.)

Ditto with whst these guys are saying although most at my club use 15% and seem to get a tad bit better transition but un noticable to the newer guys learning but heck I have a YS engine that loves nitro so I now use 20% in all my engines so I won't need to have 2 bottles of fuel to carry. I think you made a great choice with the trainer and being the 60 size it will be easyer to see.

Best of luck

I tried to PM you but you have it dasabled ?.

I got it on a good sale,i saved about 20 bucks and since it's out of state i saved a bunch on taxes and shipping was a lot cheaper on the plane,The accessory kit was also a little cheaper and shipped with the plane so i think i saved a lot more.
There were a couple reasons i picked this plane, for one it has the wing that i can either
use "rubber bands" or screws,i went to this clubs flying field yesterday and i saw a hobby lobby 60 there, the guy that owns it said he enjoys it very much but has had it for some time,i think he has more planes than one,he also checks everybodys new plane and sets it up for them, also makes other members planes do some fine tricks as they all let him fly there's also,i'm going to ask him if he's interested in being a instructor for me.
Another reason was the 60 series plane flys a lot better in the wind than the 40's and you can fly it slower i think and if i decide to get a second plane i have the engine and tx already.

I know raptor5900 says 10% should be fine and so does DBCherry and i appreciate there replys but i have heard 15% will give it better idling and less stumbling but it might be a personal thing,i'll have to make a decision soon.I think one guy uses 30% but i might be wrong,he says the others tell him he has shortened the life of the engine from 10 years down to a few but it runs fine especially in the winter but i'll ask him again.
As i'm getting older i need all the help i can get so that's a big plus for my decision on the Alpha 60,i'm not blind yet but i like flying lower than most of the others and like it to fly at a distance but NOT TOO FAR.

Think of it this way. Would you put premium gas in a mini-van? No, but you would put it in a Corvette engine. Same thing with nitro - don't need much in a sport engine, but a high compression YS 4stroke needs it. We used to run 5% nitro in pattern engines a while ago and that was fine. Don't spent more than you need. Spend the extra money on more fuel - not more nitro.

Thanks

Both will run good. The 15% idles a little better but burns faster.

I bought an Alpha 60 ARF earlier this year also
Went together really well
Started like a charm
Got an instructor lined up
Now I'm waiting for some good weather up here.

I would go ahead and use 15%, I know that those evolution engines love it.

Are we gonna see pictures of this plane being towed behind one of your pickups?

CGCOMM3RET,
I don't know yet but we have a few straight roads around here and i got to thinking,i can stand in the back of my truck and let the wife drive it,i'll take the plane off in front of us and she will keep up ( i hope ),that way i dont have to worry about it running into me when she slams on the brakes. No telephone poles or trees close to the hiway and i think i can keep it about 50' or so above the ground.[8D]
But in all seriousness i'm just as happy about this plane as i was when the young'ins were born, maybe a little happier because there all grown up and gone, besides i get there room for my plane now.

I want to pull a sign behind my plane that says " Beware,i'm a newbie "

BTW I have a minivan, and yes I use premium in it (and If I would get off my A** and put the EGR transducer under my tool box on I could use regular.). I would reccomend a good 10% nitro fuel with 20% lube in it. I would also reccomend you have some castor oil in it. The fuel bottle will be labeled as to what oil and how much it has. I run Byron's sport fuel with good success.

Its stupid to get such an expensive TRAINER. Well at least to me, since they ARE made to be crashed... think about it
