I'm looking for my 2nd plane. I hear the 4 star 40 is a good way to go. Does anybody know how it would fly with a 46 engine??
I have a OS 46 FX and I just want to switch it to my 2nd plane.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

From: gone,
A .46 is more than adequate power for the 4*40. with a relatively low power .40 and the correct prop my 4* was able to do continuous inside-outside vertical figure 8's (and inside loop stacke on an outside loop... going up is one huge S shape) In order tobe able to do that... a model has to have more than enough power for unlimited vertical climb.
With the .46, if ground clearance allows (I would mdify the landing gear to MAKE the ground clearance) I would advise using a 12.25X3.75 for maximum aerobatic performance. Maximum speed will be attained with eigher a 11X5 or 11X6 depending on how much nitro you feed the engine. (its not a fast model... a shorter higher pitch prop won't help maximum speed)

THis would be a good engine unless you build a clipped wing 4 star.
Some people tend to build the wing minus a rib or two.

If this is your second plane, I assume your first was a trainer. The 4* is a perfect next step. If you didn't already have an engine I'd recommend the 4* 60, other than the engine, the building cost is virutally the same.
Either way, I would build it according to plans, leave the wingspan stock for now. You can always shorten it later. If you are thinking 4* ARF, you can also shorten the wings later. Are you retiring your first plane since it's losing the .46FX? Personally, I'd always keep two planes in flying condition 'just in case.'

This is one of the few planes i suggest to my new people in my store for a secondplane. The landings can be a little bouncey until you get the hang of it. After flying this plane until your bored with it then your skill level should be good enough to fly anything you want. Dennis

Everyone,
Thanks for the re-assurance that my engine will work well with my new plane. I am currently waiting on my new kit to arrive, should be here in a matter of days. My trainer is a SIG LT-40 ARF which I really enjoy, but I am ready for something new.
Thanks
