Changing Original Transmiter to a different one

how do i do that? The R/C Plane im gonna get comes with a junky Transmiter... i would like the Futaba 4YF. Is it posible to make it control the plane i get? if so how? and also what is buddy box?

Depends on the radio the airplane comes with... it could be as simple as buying the new radio on the same frequency and off you go. it is also possible that the receiver int he airplane is compatible, but the wiring order of the reciever be different so you may have to swap which servo s plugged to which channel. It couls also be that the receiver has the wrong "shift" and you need to replace the reciever.
If its REALLY junky... then the servos may be hard wired to the reciever, which would mean replacing all of the radio system to use the new transmitter.

The Alpha trainer (if i remember correctly) comes with a radio that is essentially EQUAL to the Futaba SkySport... not junky. Not worthwhile replacing it.
I'll look it up and double-check. But if I'm right you'd be wasting your time.

ok, my mistake.... I was looking at a geocities site, and showed a junky transmiter, but then i looked up the jr quattro and it's good

I use many types of transmitter, from my basic Futaba Challenger which I use on almost all first flights because it is so easy to trim and reverse servos. Once the plane is trimmed out, I may cahnge to a Futaba FF7, or a HiTec Flash 5 or now to a Futaba 6AX. They all give plenty of range. Providing the receiver has a matching crystal to my transmitter, many types of receiver work well. I think a lot of nonsence is talked about one must use the same transmitter make as the receiver. The same with servo's. I use any servo. Sometimes I have to swap plug wiring, but in the last few years, they are almost all the same. I find the latest electronic trims difficult unless the plane is set up almost perfect before the first ever flight. Manual trims can be rapidly pushed fully one way or the other if the plane is climbing, diving or rolling. Much easier than bleep, bleep of the electronic trims. Nothing worse than finding the thing climbing like a rocket and having to hold down on the stick, while one bleeps the trim, not knowing where the thing has got to. The other problem I have with computer transmitters is the model selection number. Too many times I have taken off, only to find that I selected the wrong one and the ailerons are reversed. Usually a rolling crash! Now I try and set all my planes on the simple Futaba Challenger, with all the servo directions the same. Just swap the pushrod to the other side, dont switch it on the transmitter. That way I never get the directions wrong. I know some flyers will think me an idiot for not checking before flight, but at 70, one can have a Senior Moment! Better safe than sorry.

You do have to be sure that you use the correct "shift" transmitter for the receiver.
JR uses one shift. Futaba uses the opposing shift. A JR TX will not operate a Futaba RX. (a Futaba TX will not operate a JR RX either.)
GWS default is the same shift as JR... but they also make Futaba compatible.
Hitech default is Futaba compatible... but they also make JR compatible.
FMA makes both and wants you to specify every time. (no default)
So there is some truth to the need to use "the same brand" of TX with the RX.

It looks as though I have been lucky. I do admit that my old JR transmitter does not work with my GWS, HiTec or Futaba receivers, but everything else works together very well. I used to build my own sets from Transmitters to miniature servo's, but for the last 20 years it has been a waste of time. The commercial sets are so good and less expensive.

This business of positive and negative shift frequencies only really applies in the US and has no bearing on UK 35mhz equipment. There could be a number of reasons why that old JR Tx doen't work with some of your receivers. To determine the problem you're better off getting local advice from a friend or club member...
