Default Some advice for a beginner....

Ok I am coming back to the RC plane universe after playing with cars for the last few years. Wow have things changed. I must Lazer cut kits are a godsend. I picked up a Herr 1/2a (I think) AT-6 Texan which is coming together quite nicely. Before I take the Texan out I am looking for a park flyer electirc foam plain that I can abuse without too much time invested in.

Any advice on a durable, slow flying, cheap park flyer?

The GWS tiger moth is pretty good. I put one together with/for my dad in about 6 hours (was checking the clock, and in a bit of a hurry).

The Tiger Moth gave me nothing but headaches... (but I now think it was a bad battery pack... Never had enough power to get above 10 ft up.)

The Wingo or Soarstar (very similar aircraft) are slow flying, very rugged models 3 channel kind of goofy looking... but they can be a lot of fun. One of the main differences is the Soarstar has a gear drive, which is inherantly more efficient with the slow models.. Both are pushers.

There are MANY decent electric models out there....

GWS Slow stick.... can't get much simpler, or easier to fly. Plus if you get GWS flite pack it will transfer right over to the tiger moth....

I've seen that problem many times in all cases the propeller was on backwards Check to make sure the lettering is facing the front [X(]

I fly both glow and electrics.

Electrics are very nice, however you do need to be aware of a couple of things. MOST park flyer and trainer electrics can not handle wind over 5 mph. The MAJORITY of electric trainers are 3 channel (rudder, elevator, throttle OR aileron, elevator, throttle) where as MOST glow trainers are 4 channel (rudder, elevator, aileron, throttle). Electrics are clean, quiet and MANY can be flown in a much smaller space than a glow plane.

Several electrics that you may want to consider are: Soarstar, Wingo, Sky Scooter Pro II, Slow Stick. Any of those should serve you well.

Welcome back and good luck.
