Default What steps would you take?...........

I've have been flying about 4-5 months now and I feel comfortable when flying my trainer (Xtra-easy 40. Right now my goal is to own and fly a Cap 232 1/4 scale. What is the best next step for me to take toward reaching my goal? I feel if I have a goal to reach then there must be a best way to get there. I want the least amount of steps but I also want to be reasonable in my choice of aircraft. Weather permitting I try to fly at least 2 days a week and use the RealFlight G2 simulator daily.......

Any opinion welcome.......

Thanks,

Thomas

Hey Tomasnc41

I'd try and get some stick time on a semi-symmetrical low wing plane, like a Sig fourstar 40,60,120. Last year I went through the same steps. The fourstar is a joy to fly, the cap can be a handfull at times.(slow landings) I fly in Smithfield NC.If you care to spend a day flying at our field let me know and I will put you up on my H9 1/4 cap.

Hey Stomper,

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the Fayetteville area and I appreciate your input and your offer to fly with you. I'll certainly keep that in mind.

Thanks Again,

Tom

I agree with Stomper. Once you have reached the point that you have mastered the flat-bottomed trainer, then move into a semi-symetrical wing foil. The flight characteristics will be similar for take-offs and landings but will give you more aerobatic capabilites. The Cap is a highly aerobatic plane and is pretty responsive to control input. It is a completely different animal than the trainer you are comfortable with now.

I also totally agree with the Sig "4 Star" series as a second choice if you're looking to go to a Cap in as few steps as possible.

Since nobody else has mentioned it let me sugest one of the 'sticks' like the TT Tiger Stick, then moving to an aerobatic trainer with clean flight characteristics like the WM T-34. From there the CAP/EXTRAS are next.

I went from a trainer to a 4*60 to a 40 size Extra 300 and it went smooth

Thanks for the info but I notice nobody has said anything about the pros and cons of training available with RealFlight g2. Is it realistic?

THanks again

Yes Realflight G2 is very realistic. This is how I learned to fly.

I learned to fly a GP Big Stik with the Dave Brown sim. Any stik style plane I have seen or heard of has no bad habits at all. On low rates the plane is very easy to fly. Landing is basically throttling back and letting it settle in. The stall speed is also very low.
