Hi all. I need a simulator to learn how to fly both RC airplanes and helicopters. I got this link here for a FREE simulator:
http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html
Do you guys like it? I have a new airplane(I can fly some what) and most of all a HAWK Sport HELI. I dont want to spend tons of money on simulators. I do however, need to get the basics down for flying both. Anyone ever use this sim?
#2-I got this link-http://www.helihobby.com/html/fms_interfaces.html for a cable link from my radio to my computer. Which one do I buy?!?! I have a JR radio and an XP computer.
Thanks,
Mike.
P.S- Anyone want to sell me a sim cheap?

you might try asking this in the simulator forum. I would suggest getting an instructor first to get the basics before you get to wound up in buy stuff.

The sim works great if you can get the interface cable that plugs into your radio. There are a lot of planes that users have made for the sim that you can download for free. Some of them are very accurate and fun to fly.

Hey Mike, I've been running into the same set up challenges. Here's what I found out. Yes, the sims are free downloads but you have to buy the cable to hook it up. Look on Ebay and you find them there. Rob

Well,,, better than a simulator, is a buddy cord and a good instructor. Learn to fly with an instructor then use the simulator to learn aerobatics and 3D stuff. I have heard good things about "Real Flight". The big problem with a simulator, in my opinion, is that when you are flying the real thing, the reset button doesn't work quite the same way. hehehe. I got back into this hobby after 10 years and the guys I flew with learned on a simulator. The first season, they trashed 4 planes each and I still have my first. Good luck.

FMS is okay for the very basics of RC flight, but it's not very realistic. (Heare's a link to a guy that sells the interface cables for about $16 shipped. http://www.mattclement.freeservers.com/fms/fms.html )
If you want to use a Sim to learn Heli flight, I'd highly recommend spending the money for something like Great Planes "Real Flight" (about $200), or "Aerofly Pro" which was on sale at an RCU advertisers site for $139 recently.
I wouldn't trust FMS to prepare you.
