Default Another Engine Question!!!!

When adjusting the low end needle valve should the adjustment be made with the throttle open or should the throttle be closed to the idle position, or does it make a difference.

hi, the throttle does'nt have to be open, in fact it does'nt make a difference where it is ( although if the throttle was fully open it would be hard on the ears)

On many engines, the low end needle valve is verrry close to the prop. On such engines, I would suggest making adjustments with the engine off. Make adjustments in small increments. Make a 1/8 turn adjustment, start the engine, evaluate the result and repeat.

No it makes no difference whatsoever. But the high speed needle should be adjusted with the engine running at full throttle.

Scott's, engine off advise is very good advise if you do not
feel comfortable with the engine running at idle... I just
insure the plane is held well.. and be very conscious of
what your doing.. And I make adjustments at idle.. or
you could buy or grind down the working end of a long
screw driver so as the end is outside the end of the prop.
But if you do not feel good about it, adjust with the engine
off.. It'll take a bit longer... But it's safer!!
