airplane hold downs for the field ?

Bassman,
Look in Beginners for a post by Vacinekm (05-22-02) I sent him a sketch of the fold up/down goal post type of hold down that I made from PCV Sckedule 40 pipe.
I would be happy to post it again but I am at my summer home in MI and don't have a scanner. My answer to him is post #14. I can almost garantee if you build it others in your club will want one!
Sorry about the spelling but the spell check is not working

Go to your local home depot or similiar store and buy the neat thing they sell for about 3.99........used to hold your garden hose.
metal one comes with foam on the uprights. Use some long spikes to hold in the grass....works very well. Have used mine for aircraft with large gas engines and it holds the aircraft very secure.
After engine starts and just lift the tail over the uprights.

I needed something once I was instructed that I really should have something holding the plane during the range test. Safety first, good idea, always. So I used a loop of rope I had in the car with a screwdriver into the grass to secure the tail. Very easy to just loop around the tail, and easy to release when you're ready to go. Construction time, 3 minutes, cost 25 cents. Takes 2 seconds to use. Its just part of my pre-flight now. Good flying, Tom

From: Wayne, NJ,
1 section of copper pipe
1 copper "T"
2 90 degree copper elbows
2 copper end caps
a little solder
Pipe insulation
Make it yourself. Use a hammer on the end that goes into the ground to flatten it. It will go in easier.

A flat board about 8-10 in. wide with two large sized dowels drilled in at an angle to hook the tail in and a hole in other end to stake it down. We use work stiations[tables] and I just drill two holes into the table at an angle to stick the dowels into, hook the tail into the dowels and it's not going anywhere. start your engine, set it on the ground and go flying.

I just use two pieces of PVC pipe with some pipe insulating foam on them. Costs about $2, and works just as well as an $30 contraption you can buy. Takes about 2 minutes to make, too.

I use a screwdriver and some nylon rope. Take out a 5-8 foot length and tight the ends together. Make a "U" out of the loop. Put each end of the "U" around the horizontal stab and the center is held down by the screwdriver. Works great!

I think I like that idea best, Groundforce. The only problem with those PVC pipes I use is that they fill up with dirt. Your idea neatly solves that!

Bassmanh, I believe I know what you are looking for unfortunately I can't remember the name of it.
Take a look at my gallery *points down at the gallery button* I am using one to hold my Edge with.
I will try and see if our local hobby store carries it and get the name for you.
