Hi
Ok I don't know for sure how to explain this problem so excuse me if I babble. I have a tower trainer with an older futaba conquest FM system using s148 servos. When I operate the ailerons and return the stick to center its like the servo is searching to find the center. So if I let off of the stick the servo Kinda rocks back and forth before it stops. I am sure its not the servo because if I hook it up to another plane it works fine. I also tried a different servo on this system and it does the same thing. So My question is, is it the radio or the receiver?
Thanks
Jeff

If it is only doing this with aileron, then I'd suspect, since it's an older radio, that the aileron pot is dirty or worn in the center of it's rotation. Contact cleaner could clean it up if it's dirty. If it's worn, then it needs to be replaced.

I have had this same problem with two planes. In both cases I was using two aileron servos with wire extensions that plugged into a y-harness. After a couple of seasons, my aileron servos started acting like yours. The problem turned out to be dirty connections where my wires plugged together. Airtronics and Futaba wiring accessories have silver connectors. I did not have luck cleaning connections, so I replaced my extensions and y-harnes with the Hitec heavy duty gold plated connectors. All my problems went away and have not returned. Try plugging your servo directly into the receiver and see if your problem goes away, if it does, that means you have a dirty connection with your wire extension. You can try cleaning connection. Radio Shack sells a spray cleaner that might work. Also I think you can use Hitec extension with Futaba. You may have to trim the small lip off of the futaba connector to get it to work. Haven't tried this, but I believe this will work. Maybe futaba offers gold connections now, I haven't checked in a while.

I agree that it sounds like a dirty connection.
Try replacing the aileron extension wire or going direct to the RX as Kelsey_B suggested, that will tell you for sure.
Sometimes you can plug and unplug the extension several times and get a better connection, so you might try that. If you see an improvement, then you know it's your problem, and you should get better wireing.

I agree there is a servo problem. I never really liked the 148's. Many people have had good luck with them I just never did. They just seemed so sloppy to me. No ball bearings was a big disapointment. I found that using ball bearing conversion kits on mine took care of much of the problems with these servo's. I believe EJ Lund made them.
