The receiver only meddles in the affaires of the signals being sent to the servos. The actual power is delivered through a common power "bus" on the receiver which can take a lot of current (typically). So, the general answer is "yes" you can use any servo on any receiver. It is the battery pack that determines the "power" available. There is a point at which the power sent to the servos will melt the "bus" in the receiver, but I imagine that a short-circuit or lightning strike is about all that could do that. The other consideration is that some "mini" receivers are designed for "indoor" use. i.e. they make them so small and light that they can not include all the amplification circuits in the receiver, and this reduces the range to about 100m instead of 1600m. If your receiver is *that* small then you should not be putting it in an out-doors plane. Anyways, a standard servo in an indoors plane will turn your plan into a car.

THANKS GUS
I'm building a tower hobby Fun 51 and want to use a smaller rec. so I can rap it in more foam. I need all the protection I can get when the ground catches my bird.

Matt, let me make a suggestion. Build your plane to fly, not to crash. If the crash is severe enough to damage the rx a little extra foam isnt going to help. Many times rx damage in a crash comes from the servos being snatched out of the rx and not from the impact of the rx.
If a crash is immenent with the tower 51 you might need to sharpen your skills a bit more with a trainer.
The main purpose of a micro rx is to save weight. If you have one lying around its no problem to use it, but I wouldnt recommend buying one so you can wrap it in more foam.
